It’s literally the same exact situation that happened with Gallup.

ACL tear near the end of the season.

Re-sign to big extension anyway and then RELY on them to be a day one starter the next season because you add zero depth behind them.

Could be - potentially the worst signing in JJ’s history - if Steele goes bust after cashin in.

Jerry never has been one of those "What have you done for me lately" guys who tries to save a few bucks. He is a "What did you do for me a few years ago" guys and I want to pay you for what you did for me 3 years ago.

He really has particularly in pass protection. He still is one of the better tackles in the run game though.

Now is the time when those who overrated him, rather than admit that they were wrong, pretend he's not what be used to be.

Struggling RT. Fire Dak and Trey Lance looks booty will lead to Zach Martin and Tyron Smith retiring or requesting trade to other teams.

So...what do you do?

Not easy being a GM is it? This board tries to make you think otherwise, though.
Shame on this board not wanting the same failed GM around for decades.

Keep the lessons coming.

Yeah, that extension gave me Michael Gallup vibes all over again. You had him on a one-year favorable deal and signed him to a top ten contract before you even got to see how the knee responded? It makes no sense.

Good thing we signed him to a big contract before the season while he was injured. He is the 9th highest paid RT. Playing like the lowest graded RT.

Hopefully we look to replace him after next year before his CAP number balloon to almost 20mil a year.

Another example of Jerry overpaying and over valuing our own talent. All he has to see is one good year especially if its your contact year and bam over paid.
Hopefully, he will get back to where he was and continue improving.

I don't think he became a bum, he became injured and is now recovering, much like Gallup was last year.

Jerry likes to sign guys who are hurt at a discount. At least we got Steele for a long-term contract. We only initially signed Gallup to a 2 year deal at 7 figures per year.

We're very good at getting value at the bottom of the roster, with the savings and more going to bad contracts at the top.

I also love the “not easy being GM”.

As if the current GM isn’t the GM 100% by choice. When he could be retired and laying on a beach somewhere and leaving us fans the hell alone.

He's always been an Elite Run blocker and a so/so pass blocker. Which is what you want out of your right tackle. I think he'll return to form and at least be slightly above average in the pass game.
The offensive line has been good and we're ranked 12th in pass block win rate and 7th in run block win rate. Those averages would put us as a top 9 offensive line and I think we're better than that as I think our grades were dragged down by the Cardinals game.

I'm thinking the Cowboys gave Steele that money for the future, and they feel Terrance will bounce back from the injury over the duration of the contract. Maybe TS starts to get his knee back up under him mid-to-late season.
