Terrance Steele contract

Of course they didn't want to spend a high draft pick to replace him. The Cowboys knew their defense needed all the help it could get. Drafting Shelton in the 4th was them hoping he could be a possible starter in 2027 or 2028 if they decide to move on from either tackle.

I've been saying all off season if Guyton and Steele are so bad, how did they manage to be #2 in yards and #7 in scoring last year? Yes there were spells they couldn't get a 1st down and 2nd halves they couldn't score. But so did other teams. That is how they managed to rank so high.
I know people don't want to hear this but Prescott bail them out a lot the tackles were like swinging turnstiles at times and he was at times touching the ball from the snap and already running away from the pressure It did ruin some plays but he saved a lot of plays and people don't like to give him a lot of credit 'cause he's not as mobile as he used to be but man he saved that offensive line skin last year 'cause they were ranked in the low 20s in pressures they gave up way too many sacks way too many pressures..

The center of the line was so good and so strong that it helped offset those weaknesses..

I do agree it can function as is and you're hoping that they get better I mean isn't this

In Klayton Adams we trust, people are hyping this guy up as the best OL Coach of his day,

So why can't he improve those two guys? Let's hope he can that's my point but you're right it's it's OK the way it is they had the resources allocated elsewhere They did be closer to areas like Mineral Wells Jacks draft a guy that can very well easily compete for right tackle in the very near future, When some of that I know people don't have confidence in Nate Thomas but I think they're developing him and have a feeling that to Central Texas so he could develop quicker and maybe be better than Guyton as far as just being solid and steady instead of inconsistent we all know Guyton is better he's got a better physical body and reach and athleticism but that doesn't mean that's who you want as your regular starter if you're that inconsistent..

yards mean little compared to POINTS
we were SEVENTH in points
Also, we were lousy in the Red Zone
so this Offense really was closer to 10 then to 1

and in 10 years where exactly has that gotten us???
..oh I see, your one of those guys.. :) *checked*

It’s pretty simple….the cowboys offense was probably not deserving of the #2 spot and it’s inflated because they ran the most plays of anyone in football last year behind a bad defense that had them trailing frequently. Before anyone twists my words I’m not saying the cowboys offense is bad, in fact I acknowledge it’s a very good unit, but realistically they were probably closer to a top 10 unit than they were a top 5.

Realistically the cowboys offense may drop a couple spots in the rankings this season but still be a better and more efficient unit in 2026 If they can get better production out of their tackles and TE positions. The cowboys defense not forcing the offense to put up 40 points to win games would help in that regard too.

The cowboys offense in terms of EPA per play were behind LAR, NE, GB, and Buffalo by a decent amount. They were lumped right with Chicago, Indy, DET, SF in that 2nd tier of offenses….again not bad at all, but certainly not at the elite status of the unit being so good they couldn’t upgrade a position or two.
I would note that we had two OT games to help yardage & points & one of the best kickers in the league that provided like 60% of our scoring during a stretch. So yeah, good but not quite what the rankings would suggest.

before his injury, steele was acceptable at pass blocking and excellent at run blocking
now he is only above average at best in run blocking and a near turnstile at pass blocking
but because of the idiot contract the GM gave him this really kind of had to happen

when the rubber met the road, the offense came up short way too often for the praise it gets here by some

He never had elite lateral agility so guys who could get wide with speed gave him problems but pre injury I'm going to say he was quite solid as a pass protector & as you said excellent run blocker.

If not signed to an extension & he doesn't get hurt, people are probably screaming "how could you not lock him up early?".

Bingo. It’s not by a massive amount but we ran the most offensive snaps in football. When you do that you should be ranked near the top. We also failed to score consistently enough. In theory the #2 offense should be higher than #7 in scoring.

This is still a very good offense but it’s realistic to assume the possibility of regression in bringing back the same 11 starters based on last years metrics and regression as the year progressed.

Interesting sidenote: 2027

**May deadline for Guyton's 5th year option
**Final year of Steele's guaranteed money on Steele's contract (recently reworked )

So both contracts will need attention in 2028. Coincidence, probably not, coz Dak and Lamb contracts will also need attention.

Yes on offense we're talking about the offensive line and Prescott's important to the offense and somehow you just missed it because you want to be a troll as usual you're one of those people that just can't stop has nothing to do with the last 10 years The offense has been ranked how many times in the top five in those 10 years? Back on track yeah the last 30 years i'm surprised you didn't bring that up and blame that on Prescott or Romo even though they we're only here for parts of those where the issues are mostly on defense special teams and coaching and just choking in bigger games against playoff teams not just in the playoffs in the regular season we get it Mostly it's those phases that are not stepping up..

Going to go through this again but if you want to go and show me the playoff games that were lost and show me how the offensive line the receivers the tight ends and the running backs did along with the coaching Staffs game plans and adjustments in the game and for sure the damn defense..

How many times over the last 10 years have we had an historically bad defense that's rhetorical that would be three times and other times when the defense looked good even with Dan Quinn they didn't show up against those playoff caliber teams or in the playoffs they didn't play well at all not well enough too many opportunities left by the team that is why you blame this draw on the team from the top down ownership front office coaching and players on all phases have found ways to screw it all up...

There's a fact and if you think it's too long I don't give a flip..

Yeah except I didnt crap on the cowboys lol. I crapped on the tackles and TE who need to perform better. Would you disagree?

They’re #2 in terms of overall yardage. Yards are not the only indicator of success/failure. Total yards also don’t tell the story for all 11 starters.

Just suggesting that the cowboys have the #2 offense in football and ending the conversation completely ignores how brilliant Dak was early in the season. It completely ignores the impact of having 2 elite WRs on the field has.

If you want to act like everything is perfect and the cowboys don’t need to look to improve then you do you, but don’t come crapping on the posters looking to have actual adult conversations on the board.
They play for the Cowboys correct? #2 offense in the NFL deal with it. Time for your 2-5 post since you’re losing face.

I'm sure Schotty, Adams and other offensive staff have spent this offseason studying various ways to help, protect, and even hide both tackles' limitations.

I didn't read it at all I promise I didn't, but it's not NEARLY as long as you actually wanted it to be, you're getting better everyday because of FLIPS like me and others who have told you to back off!!!!!!!!!!:laugh:o_O

So we’re not allowed to be at all critical of anyone who is associated with the team? No actual opinions, just blind homerism? Was I supposed to pretend that this defense was fantastic last year too?

Who was 2-5 last year?…or are you just making things up?

yeah and nobody's ever seen anything like it before either! You're one of the guys that have foggy glasses and can't see that this ship isn't going anywhere with the person driving it!! Once you get out of the waters, maybe you can help!

2-5 LOL shows your lack of football intelligence. And you’re always negative who are you trying to kid? Yourself? Next positive post you make will be like finding a needle in a haystack of hate.
