Seems like a solid, versatile player. Some have him at CB, most at S. Great instincts, toughness, and athleticism

Where does he go?

He has CB speed with Safety strength. If he is there in the 3rd and they don;t make the mistake of taking McKinney or Delpit at 17, Burgess may be a good option. But I also like Chinn,, although he may be gone by round 3.Another option latr in day 3 is Tanner Muse of Clemson. Another guy with speed, strength combo.

  • Smart, hard working player with physical limitations.
  • Extremely short arms / small wingspan.
  • Played box Safety and Nickel CB in college.
  • Lack of length/size would make playing SS a struggle in the NFL.
  • Maybe a Nickel CB but lacks a burst after changing direction.
  • Sub par vert combined with lack of length would make outside CB a struggle for him.
  • Best fit might be FS but that's somewhat opposite responsibilities of where he played in college.
  • Maybe Nickel CB in a scheme that values a physical Nickel CB to play the run.

His upside is probably Xavier Woods.
  • Woods become the top Nickel CB the final 3rd of his rookie season.
  • It was good to have a Safety at Nickel CB against the run but obviously Woods had coverage limitations compared to a typical Nickel CB.

Imo the guys the Cowboys already have will have Burgess inactive all year, so I feel they more of a True SS or FS...Burgess is either a nickel or projection to FS.

Dude can't play SS.

Love love love Burgess. I like my safeties to be instinctive and have a high football IQ. Something that's been lacking at safety here for a while.

Will McClay and our scouts love him too.

Sign me up in Round 3 please.

Whoa, forgot I posted this.

Yeah, I think Burgess' ceiling is far higher than Xavier Woods. But I can see the comparison.

Burgess is a versatile, intelligent, athletic S/CB prospect. He's not a flashy guy, but this is the type of player that succeeds in the NFL. Love him as a late day 2/early day 3 pick

Good player I would look for him to go in round 3. I like him better than Chinn.

Strengths
  • Lauded by scouts, coaches and teammates for his preparation
  • Has ability to align the backend
  • Reads play development and has field awareness of a pro
  • Has tools for interchangeable safety and nickel roles
  • Disciplined with good recognition of misdirection
  • Tough for quarterbacks to manipulate in two-deep
  • Avoids rub routes and slips screen blocks in space
  • Athletic, twitchy feet with early burst to cover at nickel
  • Change of direction is sudden and efficient
  • Great poise, balance and technique as tackler
  • Takes smart angles both downhill and near the line
  • Four-phase special teams experience

I am no Utah fan, but if we could come out of the draft with Utah's top 4 defenders and maybe a WR and TE, I would consider it a win.

Johnson, Burgess, Anae, and Fotu are all studs at their positions. Did anyone else see Anae at the senior bowl?

I didn't really care for Burgess's tape, but he is very smart and very fast and those are two qualities that absolutely play at safety. There's worse picks we could make in the 3rd.
