I for one would approve.

Once a key piece to the Dallas Cowboys' defensive interior, the veteran defensive lineman took his talents to the rival Washington Commanders in the free agency spree that followed the 2016 season, but things didn't exactly go as planned once he arrived. On the heels of a solid stint with the Cowboys, who signed him out of the FA pool in 2014, McClain was wooed to the Commanders on a four-year, $21 million deal that lasted only one-half of the agreed-upon time. Two seasons in, he's now been released and the timing could not be better for both him and his former team in North Texas.

In dire need of a 1-tech to fill out their defensive line and after failing to draft one, seeking a reunion with McClain makes a ton of sense for the Cowboys. It's in that spirit they're not exactly being shy about the potential of seeing him again don the Star this coming season.

At 29 years old, McClain could also be used a bridge to the future longterm starter, giving the team a chance at landing a proven impact player at 1-tech to combine with newly re-signed Brian Price, instantly fixing their void on the left interior.

The beauty is McClain has the ability to play the 3-tech as well, making the potential move that much more attractive. He knows the system and could be ready to return home and wipe the smear that is the Commanders off his resume, with the added motivation of again playing them twice a year.

At the right price, a reunion makes great sense. McClain was a great fit for what this defense wants from the 1T position. Things worked out so well in 2016 that the Cowboys finished #1 against the run defensively. He knows this scheme well. And the Cowboys once again refused to make any significant draft investment at the position.

While I wouldn't want to call a 29 year old, oft-injured player "the answer", I think he could be a nice piece of the puzzle, along with Price.

If the money part works, I'd like to see them bring him back.

Agreed.

McClain actually played very well in the cowboys system...... when healthy. If he can stay on the field he is a very solid part of the defensive line rotation and a help to the defense.

Like you said though, the price needs to be right. 1 or 2 year deal with limited guaranteed money.

In a rotation he should hopefully have a better chance at staying healthy and productive throughout the entire year.
Give him something near what we gave Paea.

Exactly. As a part of the rotation? Great. As the answer? No.

If he wants to return for reasonable money and he's willing to wait for another week or so, he might just
make a return. We are not going to lose that comp pick for Hitchens though.

He did play well for us. If only we could play him by the snap lol
When healthy he’s a good player

Don't we want to give the younger players a chance? Those who play 1 or 3?

A lot will depend on how Price is coming along with his injury. I think the FO like the play of Price last year but, he got hurt and went
on IR. Competition at TC is not a bad strategy for 1tech though.

Is there a DT on the roster besides Irving (who is a DE imo) and Collins who McClain is not better than? Is it even close? He'd step in and immediately be the #3 DT and we can use him in a rotation to get the most from him. To be honest, I wouldn't mind a DT rotation that looks like this

3T- David Irving, Kony Ealy
1T- Maliek Collins, Terrell McClain, Brian Price

Already think we are pretty good at DE with

RDE- Tyrone Crawford, Taco Charlton, Charles Tapper, Randy Gregory
LDE- Demarcus Lawrence, Dorance Armstrong Jr.

In fact, 1 *has* to go...
