Thanks for the correction. So that puts him at 100 in his 1st 6 season. I knew you were good for something Hostile.
Sooner or later I had to do something right.

Yeah...ya'll had 6 new posts while I was looking it up....then I did the same thing and forgot to count the receiving TD's :
It's interesting to me that Emmitt and LT both had their best years in year 6. I wonder if LT begins to taper off this year the way Emmitt did?

I haven't really made up my mind if he is a HOFer or not, but if he has 2 more good years and gets into the top 5 or 6, you have to believe he probably is.

Signing with Dallas was probably something that will put him back a few years on that. Not only does he have the strike of being Owens against him, he also has the strike of playing for Dallas.

But Owens has to be considered one of the best WR's of his era. As of right now, I think only Harrison has put up the type of numbers Owens has for the last decade or so.

I think numbers wise Owens probably will eventually get in. But the guy has played for 3 teams in his career, very largely in part to his own doing. And as much as people disliked a guy like Michael Irvin, he was a integral part to one of the greatest teams of all time.

Eventually I think he gets in. But I'm indiffirent. I see Owens as a Cowboy because he wears the uniform, that's it. His talent is great to have on the team, but personally, I don't really feel too strongly for him. Though I definately feel that the heat he catches is unwarranted.

No way on this earth.

Even if he caught Marcus Allen he won't hold off Tomlinson.
Barring injury, I think LT might catch Jerry, but definitely pass Emmitt.

I saw that myself...records were made to be broken but I honestly hope he doesn't come near it. Gotta keep our Cowboys at the top...lol :D

If anyone has a chance I think it's LT and you couldn't pick a better player to be the one to do it.

LT's potential longevity is kind of interesting to me. Curtis Martin, Emmitt and even Walter Payton kind of became gritty, "workman" types in the latter stages of their careers. I don't see LT ever being a "workman" type. I see LT being more like Eric Dickerson where once he loses that little something extra that God blessed him with he's not going to last too much longer.

you make some interesting points. You are right about him being (along with him being him) cursed by playing for the Boys. We all know that the Cowboys have been shafted over the years when it comes to HOF selections.

I do believe that TO should be considered a first ballot HOF because he truly defined a big fast receiver who could be a vertical receiver with big play potential or a short yardage guy who would break tackles after after the catch.

I dont believe stats will be the driving force for Owens because we have seen the selection committee pass over guys who had great stas. Look at Art Monk.

Art Monk retired as the all-time reception leader, most consective games with a catch (183 at the time but of course broken by Rice), and most catches in a seasonat 106, that hasbeen since broken but Monk had the record at that time, but yet still waiting to get in. Barring injury Owen will finish his career next to Jerry Rice in all the receiving stats. Remember he is only 33 (34 in Dec) and still going strong. He stays in excellent shape and seems to be getting better with age.

Rice cause over 70 catches and 1200 when he was 40 years old in his first year with the Raiders. Owens still has about 4 great (not good) season in him. Love him or hate him, but you cant ignore him!

this is how good Randy Moss is, or was, he's done squat for 2 years, yet has scored this many TDs

talk about wasting talent

It's called the "Al Davis Syndrome". Bring in top talent, and tell them they suck until they do.

Ask Marcus Allen, the most underrated player in NFL history IMHO

I think the movement of Running backs to now occupy the top in the last 3 decades really speaks alot. Payton, Sanders, Smith, Tomlinson. Not one punk, thug or headcase in the bunch, all standup guys who truly made(make) this league how great it is.

And not only there durablity, but their likability I think is what made them prolong and get to the point they got to or are going. Emmitt is nothing without the love his oline gave him. Those guys went out there and went to war for him because he gave them just as much love in return. And than we all saw what happen when Hambrick stepped in. Even from the simple transition from backup to starter, something just got lost in the translation. He was a different back because the oline saw what a conceded punk he was and made quick work of showing what they thought of him.

For the other 3 mentioned, can't tell me the same oline/rb lovefest wasn't going on to at least some extent. Even if a couple of those lines did suck something fierce, I bet because of whom they were blocking for that they gave just a little bit more effort.

Just too bad WRs can't be held to the same scrutinizing and reliance on another facet. I bet we'd see more Marvin Harrisons and Jerry Rices if that were the case. Instead they're basically out there freestyle solo shows with noone to answer to. Not even answering to the QBs that throw them the ball, because the reality of it is a WR is a QBs bread 'n butter unless your name is Brett Favre and you churn out WRs like butter.
