Sorry if posted! On the Niners last drive it was T-New's EXCELLENT coverage that triggered the Dat pick. Way to go T-New!

I think hes over his sophmore slump. Hes been one of our better defenders and looks like we made the right choice again. Guess the nickname 'Toast' no longer applies, anyone got a new one.

a couple of things too.

Last week everyone was complaining Newman shouldn't be in the slot. Him in the slot this week may have saved us from going into overtime.

2) people complain when we don't blitz and drop our backers into coverage. Dropping the linebackers into coverage allowed Dat to come up with that interception. Our Backers really need to improve in their pass coverage. Although just because you don't blitz on passing downs doesn't mean you are going prevent.

Yes it was a good play/tip by Newman so Dat could get it, but did you see Newman just keep running the other way with his hands up? He didn't know or care what happened to the ball after he tipped it....

He needs to talk to Henry, the thing I noticed on Hnery, he was like Newman for awhile last year, if you don't totally go full out and cream the receiver(jam) he goes by you and he's flat out gone, also did anyone notice how TN almost caught the guy from behind, he is soo much fast than anyone in our secondary, he blew by Henry like he was stuck in molasses. Also change of subject but did anybody notice the screen passs at the end of the first half down by the goal lin, we didn't quite score, but it was decent, there is potential, Bill will not let this fail, we will become good at screens...

He made 3 plays ...

Key 3rd and 2 in the 4th quarter, Niners ran the reverse that worked earlier, and Newman came up in run support and caused Battle to stop in his tracks.

Fergie tips the ball up in the air, Newman shields the WR so Singleton can make the pick.

Newman jumps the slant to tip the ball in the air for Dat's INT.

Newman also needs to give Henry and Glenn some coverage advice on how to defend the deep pass.

Terence Newman is a very good cornerback, but for some he'll always be the guy we drafted over _______ _______ (fill in Byron Leftwich, Terrell Suggs, trade down for Trufant, etc.).

Good play by Newman. He had several more very good plays that really stood out this game:

1. On Singleton's intereception, Newman recognized that the ball was tipped up, threw the receiver out of the play, he started to position himself to intercept the ball, but saw that Singleton was closer and stayed out of his way.

2. He came up strong in run support on a reverse to Arnaz Battle, stopping him for no gain.

3. Came up strong in run support at the goal line to stop Kevin Barlow.

Yep. I can understand that to an extent. There was no guarantee that Dallas could have made a trade down to get Trufant, but Leftwich and Suggs were definitly available. I thought TNew was the best available pick that year and have not been dissappointed with the pick.

You're right. Newman played well yesterday and the niners opted to go at Henry rather than him. Somebody saw something that Henry was or wasn't doing on the films I'd say.

As I have stated before Henry is the best 2nd corner the Cowboys have had since Kevin Smith. However, if you watch him on flim from his days in Cleveland and the three games he has played in Dallas you can see that he sits on ALL underneath routes making him a double move sucker.

If you paid attention to his play against the Chargers he got his interception by jumping a comeback that the WR didn't square off properly. However, he was beaten repeatedly on hesitation moves from McCardell and Eugene Parker enabling big plays (Parker's deep catch on 4th and long on the Chargers final drive comes to mind). He played well against Washington but in the 1st half Moss gave him a double move and beat him but Brunell was late on the pass so Henry recovered. Yesterday Lloyd did a number of the same things as he caught ALL four of his passes on Henry.

We can look forward to a healthy dose of this the remainder of the season. I love his aggressiveness and think he is the best thing we have trotted out at RCB in years but if I noticed his deficiencies you know OC's around the league have seen them as well. I think he can play ball and he will win more battles than he loses. He will make plays, yesterday was an off day but he'll be ok.

so even after seeing Santana Moss and Bradon Lloyd repeatedly roast the guys guarding them, you think leaving Newman in the slot is a good thing...

as for the backers...I have no problem with them dropping into coverage...its just that they usually drop way too far to cover anything underneath and despite deep drops they rarely (if ever) jump into a passing lane...the safeties are the same way...its a coaching thing

I just wish he would bump the receiver at the LOS...he plays too far off IMO
