I’m more focused on getting Dak, Lamb and Parsons signed. I feel I can replace Steele and Tyler.
They failed to replace McGovern this offseason. You want to go into next season having to replace 3 positions on the line?

No thanks. Oline is too important for me. I was pissed they whiffed on the guard this year.

I’m just saying I’d rather have to worry about replacing Steele than I would Parsons……

Hey guys, just seeing what you would think the cost would be to sign Terrence Steele to a long term deal. For some reason, deals like this get done first low key in Dallas, than the bigger names on the team. I'm not sure exactly what the numbers are for the top RT's in the league, but what's a good salary if the Cowboys choose to sign him long-term???
Recent article in SI:

We've seen the speculation about Steele's "projected'' salary; Spotrac is writing about him being worth a four-year, $52 million new deal.

Personally, I don't think he's worth that, but I'll defer to someone with more expertise about NFL offensive tackles....

Will see how the season goes for them. Won't concern myself with it until next year. Even then I won't as much.
With Steele especially. Guys aren't always the same after injury.

That said, if he returns to his form from last year, I think you have to retain him for the OL rebuild with the imminent retirements of Martin and Tyron

And you felt you really needed to say that? Why would you worry about it, you know they are resigning him. Its a done deal.

The Oline is every bit as important as any one player. One bad lineman can destroy the Oline and destroy the offense.

OT's don't have to move like backs and receivers and linebackers, etc. So, they are able to recover better, in a lot of cases.

It's also noteworthy that he had surgery in December of last year and is already working out, etc. That's about 7 months. Used to be ACL tears took a full year to heal, it's only been 7 months for Steele, so advances in medicine have probably shortened that.

And there are different types of ACL tears, could be completely torn in half or just partially torn, the latter will heal faster.

Not sure which one Steele has...

You can’t sign everyone. You seem
To think there’s no salary cap.

I consider Oline the most important position group on the team other than QB.

8-10 million for a good starting lineman is not a lot.

What is the point of paying Lamb 27 million and Dak 50 million if the Oline cant block for them?

How are you going to replace 3 starters on the Oline in one offseason?

Your going to have to get one or two in FA anyway so might as well sign your own.

You develop your linemen…..you can’t be afraid to lose players the caliber of Terrence Steele…..

Sounds great in theory. Who are these lineman we are developing that are replacing Steele and Biadasz? Where is the guy that didnt replace McGovern?

Now maybe there is an outside shot that Walenzko can replace steele? But we have no way of knowing that now.

You keep saying lose them and have no answer on how we are replacing them.

I would expect the Cowboys to use their first round pick on the Oline next year. If not, then their 2nd. So there would be one starter. Maybe Walenzko can replace Steele.

You can get great centers in the 2nd round.

Walenzko replaces Steele, you take a guard with the first pick and a center with the 2nd pick. Thats the only way I see it happening. I would lean towards resigning Biadasz if they resign one of them.

It’s all about how much it will cost. It’s bad roster management to invest big money in guys like Steele and Biadiz…

I think that with Tyron's contract possibly off the books next season, the Cowboys will have the money to extend Steele which may be in the $10m range AAS, but with a good signing bonus that kicks the base even lower. I don't see the Cowboys letting him go with the questions still on Waletzko, Ball, Bostic, Simmons and Bass. And Martin one year closer to retirement. He is 26 and in his prime.

i would wait until I see how he performs this season though just to make sure he is back. But a 4 year $52m deal is what Steele may be looking for....I would go up to $44m... Not bad for a 2020 UDFA. And the Cowboys do need to draft a OT and OG/C in the first three rounds next year.

The Dallas Cowboys and right tackle Terence Steele are working on a contract that could make him a "Cowboy for life."

Mike Fisher of CowboysSI.com reported the news:

"It might not be the highest-profile move, or even the highest-priority move, but the Dallas Cowboys, a source tells CowboysSI.com, are in the midst of contract negotiations with offensive lineman Terence Steele, with both sides hoping for a sort of "Cowboy for Life'' deal.

bleacherreport

Steele has steadily improved over the course of his three seasons, per Pro Football Focus, and he was credited with allowing just one sack last year. He ultimately played an integral role on a Cowboys team that finished first in scoring in 2021 and fourth in that department in 2022. Steele has a $4.3 million salary awaiting him in 2023 before becoming an unrestricted free agent in 2024, per Spotrac.
