Heard an interesting comment on Sirius today. TG may be being kept from practicing to avoid a potential injury prior to releasing him June 1. Obviously, if he is injured his release is complicated.

Teams are allowed to release players prior to June 1 now and still designate them as June 1 cuts to spread out the cap hit. The truth is what the Cowboys have said, they are being cautious with him because there is no need for him to be overdoing it in May.

I doubt he will be released. If he isn't a Cowboy in 2008 it will be because he was physically unable to go and he retired.

It doesn't matter. They can assign someone as a Jun 1 cut before the first now. Not sure of the exact mechanism. They don't want him injured before they find out if he can play this year. That is certainly true. But I suspect they don't need him in OTA's and would prefer him not to injure himself.

He is worth a lot more as a WR playing for the Cowboys than they are worried about his salary. But if he is injured then he would have to be either kept on the roster in hopes he could play this year, released injured with a payment, or placed on IR. They want to see if he can play so they can decide to give up a roster spot and also if he plays the first game he will get his entire years salary afterwards.

I'm not sure that there's anything to even spread out. I believe Glenn only received roster bonuses, not a guaranteed signing bonus, so there's no impact whatsoever if we cut him now or on June 1, even without the election.

Actually I believe we take a cap hit if we cut him. OTOH, believe Jerry and the Cowboys really want it to work out with TG & have no plans to cut him at all. Besides why waste him on the OTAs; he can continue to rehab and be ready for the mid June minicamp which is only about 2 weeks off.

The only benefit is waiting until June 2 to trade someone. But what team is going to trade for Terry Glenn?

highly doubtful they'd release him before seeing if he can actually play in TC and preseason...the only possibilities IMO are

1) they are telling the truth and just being very careful with him (likely)

or maybe

2) they are potentially going to trade him...have no idea who would really want him, but I suppose its possible if he can pass a physical, which in itself is a question mark

it wouldn't - the issue is likely whether some other team's guy will shake loose and he's an upgrade over Glenn

Chances of that are slim.

He can play. There's no doubt about that. It's just, how long can he play. If he's limited to 3 receiver sets, he could most likely last all season.

if that is true, I'd be happy. but what I see is a guy who is going to try to limp through another year.

He still has his speed, so that's not really an issue. Like I said, he can play at a top level -- it's just for how long.
