We laugh at carpenters hair, McQuistans, even at Chris Cooleys. Don't try to make it a race issue just because he is black. His hair looks funny, people laughed. Get over it.

That photo will always break my heart.

Not because it shows Terry at way beneath his typically photogenic self, but because of what it represents - a very difficult time of his life.

It was taken in the summer of 2001 at Pats camp at Bryant College (now University), where I taught summers for most of the nineties. Terry was going through so many terrible situations - his ex-girlfriend/mother of his son had falsely accused him of shoving her and the local papers were full of cruel untruths , he was facing a four week 'program' related suspension in the fall, his second contract signing bonus, over ten million dollars, was lost to a 'morals clause', and the Pats had stopped talking to his agent about reclaiming it. Period. Things were so bad for him that Terry stopped talking to everyone, including his head coach, who actually went so far as to have another player block Terry's car in the parking lot so he wouldn't leave.

But then Korey Stringer, TG's close friend from OSU died, and Terry lost it, and just up and left camp for several days. Some folks were not just concerned about his mental health at that point, but about his survival.

On campus we all loved Terry, and watching him disintegrate day by day was painful. He has always been super fastidious about his appearance, overly so, imo, and seeing his outer self mirror the crumbling of the inner self was just traumatic. That photo says it all.

That's all thankfully in the past, and today it's amusing to read stuff like Bill tearing him a new one over not practicing. Anyway, many people close to Terry, including Ty Law, have said they feel it was a miracle he was able to even survive what he went thru in New England that spring to winter. And when Bill said after signing TG here that it was not about reclaiming the player, but the person, we know what he was referring to. I don't think Bill Parcells' influence in Terry Glenn's life can be over-estimated.

Those of us who are fond of Terry, and I count myself among them, can never see that photo without feeling a stab of sorrow.

Sorry if I brought back some sad memories for you, but I came across the picture and thought it was funny. Like I said in the original post, "I'm not sure when this photo was taken..." This thread wasn't meant to bash Terry Glenn in any way. Like I said in another thread, Love me some #83.

On the bright side, if I hadn't posted this, you wouldn't have shared your knowledge of Terry's trying situation back then. I'm glad he got through it and I'm glad you shared that with us.
