Sure, he catches passes and scores TDs, he is probably our biggest threat at WR and one of our best players.

But, has anyone noticed that he seems to have very little field presence? Unlike Keyshawn or Irvin, all he does is just catch passes and then fades into the background.

I have no problem with that.

and your point is what exactly? that to be a good WR you have to make a total arse out of yourself like TO whenever you catch a pass?

I said he is one the our best players. Remember a few years ago when he was such a problem with the Patriots? What a difference now.

Why is it ok for a WR to be a quiet team player? Why do all WR's need to be showboating, me-first, clowns???

The WR is an isolated position. They line up away from the rest of the team. They're the first to break the huddle. They're in on only a few plays.

They need to beat defenders one on one. When they score, they're usually by themselves ... and then the posse follows to celebrate.

Given all that, they need to feel they need to showboat and strut their stuff to make themselves stand out from the team.

It's nice that Glenn isn't one of those showboating, me-first clowns.

Remember Buddy Ryan traded C Carter and said "all he does is catch TD's"

This thread just reminded me of that

Now, not only do we have people wanting players who are all about me, now we are going to critisize players for being team players and not bringing attention to yourself.

Amazing what this world is coming to, don't you think?

What WR should be doing is celebrating the TD by recognizing the QB and the O-line that made the whole thing possible to begin with. It does not matter how great a WR is without the help of the QB and the big boys up front the job can't be done.

Someone else (???) has already posted comparing Glenn to A. Harper. I would tend to agree. Harper could be quiet for several series and then he would make a big play. I could live with Glenn in that role.

I've grown to really admire Terry Glenn over the years just because of this. And that's why I would be just about irate if they released him so they could pick up T.O.

I want more Terry Glenn's on this team.

Lurker, did you mean that post as a criticism of Glenn? I did not even think that until I read the posts responding to yours.

I like how Glenn carries himself on the field. And I did not gather from your original post that you took it as a negative either.

I'm just looking for a little clarification, before I blast you like the other posters. :D

There's a fine line between showboating and entertaining. Certain players cross that line a great deal more than some others, but I thinki to an extent its good for the game and the team!! It helps the players stay hyped up when they can get excited together about a play. Sometime Glenn can be real "easy going" on the field, and I dont see a whole lot of fire sometimes, but as long as he makes the cathc, I'm ok. I just think the game needs some of these "clowns" you talk about (which is a little harsh, IMO), to keep iot exciting in games like the one we were in on Sunday!!

Not a criticism, just a comment on his style. Especially in light of his past troubles with the Patriots.
