With Martellus Bennett now toiling for the Giants, and Jason Witten getting older, there is a clear need for an influx of talent at TE... you could almost make a case for drafting a TE early, though I don't know if that will happen...
However, we do know the Boys have shown some intersest in Coby Fleener from Stanford, and Orson Charles from Georgia, both likely early picks... Fleener may go in the late first/early second round range, Charles looks like a late 2nd/early 3rd rounder... I could justify the Boys going for a TE that early, though I don't think I would... another 3rd round candidate would be Ladarius Green from Louisiana-Lafayette, kind of a poor man's Coby Fleener...
Late in the draft, I like Rhett Ellison from UCLA in the 6th, converted DE Taylor Thompson from SMU, and James Hanna from Oklahoma in the 6th or 7th... after the draft, you could choose from blocking specialists like Garrett Celek from Michigan State or Brad Herman from Iowa... or you could pick one of the receiving specialists like Derek Carrier from tiny Beloit College, or Brandon Bostick from Newberry (another small school)... both played WR in college, but at 240-245 pounds each, running the 40 in the sub-4.6 second range, I see them as stretch the field TEs at the next level... a final candidate is more of an all-around TE, Adrian Robinson from Cincinnati...
If I was making the draft calls, I think I'd look to add Ellison or Hanna or Thompson in the late rounds, then another TE as an UDRFA... I like all 3 of those late round prospects, don't know which one I'd go with if I had my choice of all 3...
I think the Cowboys can upgrade their TE position in and after this draft... I like the late round prospects, and those likely to go undrafted... there's some nice TE talent late in this draft...
