Growing up all I ever new was the Dallas Cowboys. I love the team. You were not part of the family unless you felt the same way. Back then I couldn't even tell you who owned the Cowboys.

Of course I eventually found out a man named Tex Schramm was the owner. Found out later I was wrong Clint Murchison did. The team was great they were winning. That is all I cared about.

Now that I am old...I am not as excited to watch the Cowboys. I can even tell you who the GM and the Owner is
and they are not winning anymore.

You're preaching to the choir here brother. I long for the days when we had a professionally run franchise here.

I'm also of the Landry/Schramm vintage. There were painful years and devastating losses back then. But there was also consistency (pre-free agency of course) and a sense that, whatever might be wrong, someone in the organization had the expertise and professionalism to address the problem and find an innovative solution in order to maintain a level of excellence.

Long gone now.

hey let us not forget Gil Brandt, the vice president of player personnel for the Cowboys from 1960 to 1989, helped Dallas grow into one of the most powerful and popular sports franchises in America. His innovative management and personnel systems are standard operating procedure today for many teams at the professional and collegiate levels nationwide. As NFL Media's personnel guru, Brandt offers insight and commentary on all aspects of players and teams.

Professionalism and class is something that Jerry Jones has never had. Once Jimmy left, he increasingly became this bad sitcom character that would say and do anything for attention. Unfortunately, he forgets the he may OWN the Dallas Cowboys team, but he does not OWN the spirit and loyalty that comes with being a fan.

Agree with everything. I was a kid in the mid to late 70s and all you grew up knowing was excellence. Heck, even the 80s had NFC Championship appearance. No SB was a let down. Again, expecting excellence. Early 90s continued that. It is a different feel now and it has nothing to do with the cap. It has to do with excuses and the idea that barely making the playoffs is an achievement vs. "we built the best team under the rules." The idea of excellence is lost. Jerry wants to have 1 and only one more run and he wants it under the guise of a gunslinger/risk taking mold. He talks about his style and Romo all the time. The issue is, it is just to prove people wrong, not to build a sustainable core or team. It's maddening to see what has happened the last 17 years and think that there were 20 years or so where I never thought about "can we win this year."

What's even more infuriating is that Jerry says we're going to have 20 more years of this.

Don't bet on it. I firmly believe "He's" a Cowboys fan. Jerry's gonna have to answer for his deal with the devil......
