ESPN reports the Houston Texans plan to pick up the $8 million bonus on QB David Carr's contract, keeping him under contract with the team through the 2008 season.

The rumors are flying on the radio drive into work this am that the Texans may take hometown hero Vince Young and trade/release Carr.....although, I doubt it!

January 15th. That's the date that matters right now.
btw: Houston remembers Rodney McCray over Clyde Drexler.

I heard on the radio this afternoon that they don't have to give him the bonus. They can let the deadline pass and just franchise him so that they retain his rights. They could then sign him to a more reasonable contract, or work a trade.

I don't think it is a bad deal for them to keep him, I just don't think he is worth the type of salary cap hit that the bonus puts him in.
