Houston Texans fullback Jameel Cook was arrested Wednesday night after a Fort Bend County sheriff's deputy reported finding marijuana in his Mercedes sedan.
Houston Texans fullback Jameel Cook is free on a $500 personal recognizance bond after being arrested by a Fort Bend County sheriff's deputy who reported finding marijuana in Cook's 2007 Mercedes sedan.
The deputy stopped Cook in the 14700 block of Voss Road at about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday after seeing that the Mercedes bore no front license plate or registration sticker, sheriff's spokeswoman Terriann Carlson said today.
Cook had no valid Texas driver's license and no proof of liability insurance.
"He gave the deputy a Florida driver's license that had been suspended in May 2008," Carlson said.
The car's Texas registration expired in July 2007, she added.
The 29-year-old football player was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor after the deputy searched the car and found a plastic bag containing two grams of marijuana, Carlson said.
She said she did not know where in the car the marijuana was found.
Calls seeking comment from the Texans were not immediately returned today.
Cook, who lives in Missouri City, joined the Texans in March 2006 and played in all of the team's games last season, according to the team's Internet site.
He previously had played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who picked him in the 2001 NFL draft.
