The Texans have invited 15 Houston-area players to their facility today to participate in drills that prepare them for the April 25-26 NFL draft.
Quarterback Chase Clement, tight end James Casey and receiver Jarett Dillard from Rice; tight end Mark Hafner and defensive end Phillip Hunt from Houston; quarterback Bobby Reid from Texas Southern; defensive end Melvin Bennett from Texas A&M and receiver Johnny Knox of Abilene Christian are among the players who’ll be there.
“This is the first time we’ve done this, and we’d like to watch it grow and do it every year,” coach Gary Kubiak said.
Casey, who won’t participate in the drills, is expected to be the highest draft choice among the players. Scouts say he’ll go in the second round. Dillard is expected to be taken in the third or fourth round.
