Arian Foster’s tenure in Houston is coming to an end.

The Texans have informed Foster they are going to release him, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

The Texans apparently don’t think Foster can stay healthy and be as effective as he once was. General Manager Rick Smith has said Foster’s $6.5 million salary wouldn’t be the reason to release him, but it’s hard to believe that’s not a factor.

The 29-year-old Foster had his worst season in 2015, playing in just four games and gaining just 163 yards on 63 carries, an average of 2.6 yards a carry. He will likely draw some interest in free agency, but that interest won’t be anything like what it once would have been. It appears that Foster’s best days are behind him.

Okay, yeah, it's a little tempting to see what kinda offer Foster would take. I think he is perfect behind this line.

Man, FA just got really, really interesting.

Im not getting into the FA buzz. Dallas never does much and they've basically already said they won't again this time.

"When healthy" is the key...

If you can get 13 games out of him, he'll be productive. We took a chance on an RB who had less success AND was far more injury prone in his career. I'm not saying break the bank on Foster, I'm saying throw a small deal at him and see if he bites.

But I don't want us outright saying now. And he's not the first RB I'd go to either, Miller and Martin I'd give looks. If they want too much, go to the cheaper option. We could still grab an RB somewhere in the draft.

I think they stated they aren't going for high priced FAs. So, a player like Foster seems like someone we could look to.

Last year they signed Hardy and McFadden. I just wish they would go after undervalued WRs and DBs.

The free agent market is gaining another bold-name player: via a tweet from his agent and multiple reports, the Houston Texans are releasing running back Arian Foster.
The franchise's all-time leader in rushing yards, Foster has struggled mightily to get and stay on the field in his career due to injury, and played in just 25 of 48 games from 2013-2015. Last year, he was in uniform for just four games; Foster missed three early contests with a groin injury, then was knocked out for the year when he tore his Achilles against the Dolphins on Oct. 25.

I have a good feeling he is a player we will have interest in. He will be cheap for how productive he can be and we just saw how an injury prone RB can last here when the majority of the hits they take are from linebackers and defensive backs opposed to 300+ pound linemen.

I think they will sign lower guys like foster to fill holes. But they wont sign any difference makers is what I meant by that I guess.

I wouldn't be afraid of taking a show me type of contract for Foster. He and McFadden could be something tough to deal with, if they both remained heathly for most of the season. Dunbar and a drafted player to round out the position.

I agree. Having 2 complete backs would be great. Sadly it won't make most happy. They will still cry and whine because their 4th round pet cat running back likely won't get drafted now.

If the Cowboys can get him for under a $5 Million price tag....I would be all in with you here. Solving problems before the draft, is key to this on looking fan...and mood of the discontented fans, be damned.

This is a guy who I think you can get for cheaper...older/beaten up..that could pay dividends. He is a zone guy and a one cutter. He never lost his speed or ability to find holes...he just couldn't stay healthy. I would rather have a Lamar Miller, but he is the guy you won't get because he has virtually no wear and tear and is still productive...so he will be expensive. It's guys like this that they will pinpoint if its not addressed in the draft.

Hypothetically, Foster could sign a one year "prove it" deal with Dallas, and if he sets the world on fire behind this line, he could cash in big again next year, plus Dallas would get a comp pick for losing him after this year. With that being said, I sort of doubt that he is still the dominant back he was, healthy or not.
