Texans waive veteran DE Walker
NFL.com wire reports HOUSTON (March 14, 2006) --The Houston Texans waived defensive end Gary Walker, the two-time Pro Bowl lineman who'd been with the team since its inaugural season.
The 11-year veteran, who battled through injuries last year, told Houston television station KRIV that he may retire.
"If that's my final decision, just to be healthy, I can go out and play with my kids now," Walker said.
Walker had 19 tackles and one sack in 11 games last season. He was lost for the season in December after severing his right triceps.
Walker was an expansion draft selection off Jacksonville's roster and almost left the Texans before the 2004 season because of the drain his salary would have placed on the salary cap. He wound up signing a six-year deal to stay put.
In the Texans' inaugural year, he had 115 tackles and 6 1/2 sacks and made the Pro Bowl. Drafted by the Houston Oilers in 1995, Walker signed with the Jaguars in 1999 and came to the Texans in the expansion draft along with defensive tackle Seth Payne and offensive tackle Tony Boselli.
