The Judson Rockets have made it to state in Division 1.........today we beat a nationally ranked Galena North Shore, 28-7. We have now tied Odessa Permian for the most appearances in the 5A State Championship Game with 11. We are currently 6-4.

Next Saturday at 2pm, we play the winner of Plano/Euless Trinity.....I will be at that game in the Alamodome...

Congrats on Judson making the finals. North Shore was a very good team this year, so that's a huge win.

I didn't realize Judson had six state championships - they have a chance to tie the state record (for state titles) with a win next week. Trinity beat Plano a few minutes ago 30-27. I have a video of the Trinity/Permian game at MaxPreps. ;)

Currently four teams have seven championships (total, not just 5A) - Plano (who lost tonight), Southlake Carroll (lost a few weeks ago), Celina (won today to advance to 3A state game next week), and Brownwood (no idea).

By the way, I noticed that you post on the same 5A message board. I sent a PM over there just to say hello from a fellow 'Zoner.

That board is buggy, especially these past few Saturdays during the playoffs.

I didn't realize they had met so many times before in the finals. This one's for the tiebreaker.

Judson has beaten Midland Lee, Euless Trinity, Plano, Odessa Permian, and Midland.....yes that is only 5 Championships.....

However, they were awarded the 1988 State Championship even though they lost 31-17 to Dallas Carter at Texas Stadium (DC home field). DC used ineligible players and thus had to forfeit their title. Rutledge refused to acknowledge the win cause it didn't happen on the field. I acknowledge it cause we did it fair and square and they had to cheat. BTW.....if you have seen the movie Friday Night Lights.....Odessa Permian and Dallas Carter really played in the State Semifinals (but in the movie it was the State Finals).......as I stated before Judson and DC played for the real State Championship.

Yeah, I've heard of that (and that Friday Night Lights screwed up by making the Permian/Carter game the title game). I forgot that it was Judson that the title was awarded to, though.

they didnt screw up.....Peter Berg did that for a reason. It is better drama, if you lose at State, than if you lose at State Semis.....I do wish it could have been more factual and it only bugs me, cause I graduated from Judson. However, from a dramatical standpoint, I definitely understand.

Also, the movie didn't really follow the book...the book was more about the social segregation and socioeconomic segregation within the town of Odessa, within the school, and on the team......

Okay. I haven't read the book, so...

I know why they did it, but still, it is a bit disingenuous. That's movies, though. I remember a geology professor hated Spielberg because of Jurassic Park. "Dilophosaurus didn't spit stuff" and blah blah blah. My reply was always, blame Chricton - he wrote the book.

exactly, it isn't a documentary.......it is a fictional story, based on factual material.

HP is looking good after dismantling Everman yesterday.

Who's the starter now - Crews or Gamso? They keep going back and forth.

From what I'm reading, it's gonna remain QB by committee w/ Gamso as QB1.

Crews is the better runner/athlete. Gamso the better and more accurate arm.

Well that depends on conditions.

Over 40 w/ winds under 10 mph, it's "Scotch on the rocks".

Anything less inclement, "Pig's in the blanket!"

Ahhh so Judson's back in the spotlight again I see.

Appearently, the spotlight went out too. Same thing happen to my Everman Bulldogs. They won two state championships in division 3A, (2001-2002) but were moved up to division 4A and just lost to Highland Park either last week or the week before.

I meant to add in the other thread that Highland Park surprisingly lost in the state finals to Lake Travis, 36-34. The Everman-HP game was the semi-final game (one week before the finals).

HP shot themselves in the foot w/ turnovers and a dumb choice of a fake FG attempt.

They really just looked out of sync from the get-go, and couldn't shake it.

Too bad to. We had the opportunity to become the first team in Texas Schoolboy history, to hit the 700 win mark.

I don't mean for this to come across as a racial comment, but that's a pretty damned remarkable achievement, considering the size and make-up of our student body historically speaking.
