My wife and I are attending the game tomorrow. She is a big Horns fan. I’m a a Baylor fan first but have become a wagon Texas fan when it doesn’t affect Baylor.

I’ve been through Arkansas before but not thru Northwest. The Ouachita Mountains and Ozark National Forest are a sight for sore eyes . Not the Rockies or Appalachians but scenic in it’s own right and not as far a drive from home .

This game has several historic implications for me . First of all it renews the old SWC rivalry I grew up enjoying until the Hogs bolted to SEC which was a good move financially for them and beginning of end for SWC but they have never been the more serious contender in conference as they were .

Texas/ Arkansas was one of the biggest yearly games for decades . And of course the most notable one in 1969 playing for National Championship when they were #1 and #2 in the country .

Texas came from 14 points behind going for 2 point conversion to win 15-14. Would win SEC and go on to win Cotton Bowl and National Championship.

Tomorrow commemorates almost 55 years to the date of what was called the “ Game of the Century”.

President Richard Nixonattended the game and established it as a national championship game by announcing he would award the winning team a presidential plaque declaring them "the number-one college football team in college football's one-hundredth year."[1]

With a Nielsen rating of 52.1 (a 74 share), this was and remains as of 2023, the highest TV rating in American football history, college or professional.
