Looked like Scott Linehan’s boring and inept offense to me. Even ignoring the drops and bad execution by the offensive players, the scheming and play calls were awful.

You can’t draw any conclusions on the passing game from a week 1 contest in those conditions. Joe Burrow had 80 yards passing yesterday in a lighter rain than the one we played in, and that’s a completely useless data point.

I like it a lot.lot of easy throws whih we struggled because of the weather but the concept is good for Dak.

He had one throw to Ferguson into coverage that I didn't like but the inconsistent accuracy is not a worry given the wet ball all night.
It really wasn’t into coverage, the corner peeled off his receiver after the throw just because he happened to be in position to see where the ball was going. That can theoretically possible on any throw with condensed space near the goal line and really can’t be anticipated.

The passing routes were, as predicted, shorter than in the past and more consistent by the fact that they found additional success. The Giants' offense was constantl in a self-destruct mode, as if they were constantly confused and confounded by what the Cowboys were doing.

What were your thoughts on what you saw? This is completely a different scheme from what KELLEN used, I saw a better scheme not necessarily better plays, please give your thoughts
I was not necessarily impressed but I did like his use of Turpin versus Moore's tired jet sweep crap

I think without the defensive dominance and special teams scoring a TD we’re talking about last nights game much differently.

The run game was fine, but the passing game was by far the weakest link last night.

It has to be better moving forward.
This was my frustration with the game last night. I hate that we rest our starters like we do in the preseason. Throw in a different style offense and we are just compounding a trend to start slow on offense until things click. Yes, our special teams and defense set is up which was great to see. I am not going to drink the kook aid yet but if we can put up 40 without our passing offense clicking, we could be awfully dangerous all year.

They showed every bit of a team that hasn't practiced the new offense outside of real game time.
It should only get better from here.

I get you and it was not near bad as I had seen from him at times last season. I just don't like trying to fit throws like that in that situation, wet ball and up big.

I liked what I saw in the rain. What I think they could use is a bruiser at rb to throw in in short yardage, a Marion barber type punisher.

Tight ends need to clean up their act. Catch a dang ball and don't go all kadarius toney on us.

Week 2 should paint a better picture since it'll be in a better environment without rain.

The Kellen Moore support frequently just brought up points per game while ignoring how much the defense created. Being consistent, the texas coast just scored 40!!!!! Obviously that's an asinine way to look at it. Always was, always will be.

The team didn't look sharp on offense last night. Random issues:
- Some of that is weather.
- Some of it was more dropsies. This time from TE's.
- Dak seemed a little off on some of his throws
- The first game malaise. Taking out the 13 defensive points, Dallas scored 27. Last year in beautiful weather they scored 3 against Tampa. Let's not forget that.

On the positive side, no turnovers and fewer penalties. Playing faster seems to help the o linemen.

Jerry will have all the leverage against Dak now. He's not going to pay him $60.million a season just to drive the bus.

With this defense, Trey Lance will be the starting QB.

I loved what I saw from the offense this week. The focus on the Cowboys playing sideline to sideline is huge IMO. Throughout so much of the Garrett & Moore years everything was straight north and south, both in the pass and run game. Now teams are going to be forced to spread out and respect the outside attacks. It seems like the little toss play is going to be a huge emphasis in the run game, and I loved that the Cowboys actually had a designed pick play that worked. This is going to open up those vertical routes in time and even open up the middle of the defense to allow run lanes. So often the last couple years it felt like good teams could shut down the inside run lanes, hang out in mostly deep zone coverages and unless the Cowboys just beat their opponents from a straight talent perspective the offense sputtered. Against the Giants it wasn't the cleanest game we have seen from this offense, but it's probably the most optimistic i've been that there is an actual scheme in place that should evolve over the year to help defenses not sit on the same concepts over and over and over.

Hard to draw any conclusions based on a defensive route, but it's worth calling out that multiple teams across the leagued looked extremely rusty due to lack of preseason participation.

not much of a rhythm. It worked, but a little bit uncomfortable looking. I’m sure it will get better.
I hate they got no pre season reps. That along with the weather was certainly a part of it.
But one game means little in a season. The important thing is getting it worked out as the season goes on
Rhythm is really important and that comes from reps. But just can’t duplicate game speed in practice

Missed passes, awful weather and a lopsided game due to our bullying of the GMen. There is no way to tell what we are on offense yet. Jets game should challenge us on both sides of the ball, and of course the elephant on the field named Rodgers

i wonder if the rain had anything to do with how bad the passing offense was??:grin:

What were your thoughts on what you saw? This is completely a different scheme from what KELLEN used, I saw a better scheme not necessarily better plays, please give your thoughts
To those criticizing the offensive approach/playcalling, you need to keep in mind two key factors: One, the early defensive scores, Giants turnovers, and favorable field position; and Two, the driving rain they were playing in. Those two factors affect your offensive play calling.

As your lead steadily grows and the rain continues, you're going to modify your offensive game plan and dial it back, especially if you're able to run the ball with reasonable effectiveness and get heavy pressure on their QB. If you even played high school football and had to play or practice in a heavy rain, you understand that the rain compromises your footing and your ability to both grip/throw and see/catch the football. With the defense giving them a nice early cushion and continuing to stymie the Giants offense with consistent pressure, the Cowboys weren't going to put the ball at risk with lots of passes or risky passes.

As for the "Texas Coast" offense, I agree with the philosophy and features that define it. Using the short, quick pass on earlier downs to get the QB in rhythm and create favorable down/distance situations, plus aid the running game. Periodic use of tempo. More formation variety to run play concepts from so you're not as predictable. Some easier reads. My issue with the offense under KM is that he too frequently got away from the run game when it wasn't necessary, at times relied too much on vertical route concepts (routes take longer to develop, protection gets more difficult, Dak has to wait in the pocket a bit longer), and, per defensive players throughout the league, was too predictable based on formation/personnel.

With the defense helping give the Cowboys an early and growing lead, and the rain continuing throughout much of the game, I just don't think you can really evaluate the offensive play calling and philosophy or passing game performance all that much. Hoping that next week, we can.
