Texas H.S. set to begin work on $60M stadium

What an absolute joke. There are high schools that can barely afford the bare essentials, while this school gets $60 million to build a football stadium....Where are our priorities?
The citizens that live there paid for it, so nobody is taking from anyone else. Furthermore, due to Robin Hood, I suspect the Allen School district actually does take out of their pocket and give to other more needy districts.

BTW, these funds are not directly edcuation related and cannot be used as such by law. It would almost be like saying how dare the city fund a Trinity River project (opps, my bad) vs sending more money to schools. The funds come from different sources and were voted on for specific uses.

It should have been...that is the trend now all over Texas. It saves hundreds (thousands?) of acres of land and prevents duplication of resources.

the situations don't compare at all. 60 mil for one school vs 70 mil for 9.

True the Cy Fair school district and those who live in Cy fair are the ones who voted on it and are paying for it. I live in Houston and my taxes do not go to pay for that stadium the people in the CFISD pays

one of the great things about growing up in one school town is high school football is on Friday nights like it's supposed to be.

It's not just for one school. Those funds are for multi-use facilities that belong to the entire city.

Nothing wrong with that however being in a city where you have several ISD you see allot of good high school football being played. I live In the Spring Branch ISD we have 4 HS teams in our district. At one time there were 6 but my school Spring Branch High no longer exists as well as Westbrook high school.

I thought the thread was about the football stadium for Allen, which is for one school and the multi-use thing is a joke. we all know that, this is about football. which is fine by me.

I'm actually going to call someone here at the City I work and find this out or I may call the City of Allen.

It's been a slow week, so this will be something to do.

yeah I know it's impossible for the city schools to only play on Fridays. I remember when my son had his first game on a Thursday, seemed like a junior varsity game, it just felt wrong.

Man, lots of phone calls and being put on hold.

I finally was able to speak with the Executive Director of Facilities and he said that other High Schools will indeed be playing at the new stadium and felt very positive about the stadium ultimately paying for itself.

He and the Secretary at AISD said they have been getting a flood of phone calls and criticism about the new stadium. He said there have been so many calls that they may put up a special section on their website and a 1-800.

I remember when I moved to Allen in 2008, I looked up the city on Wiki and it said that the median income was like $93,000 or something like that.

So they can definitely afford it.

I guess he didn't say he was talking about Allen's opponents. :D

I hated playing on Thrusday Nights and having to attend classes the next day when the body was sore. Not to mention the punishment handed down if we happened to lose the game. :laugh2: Friday nights or Sat games were alot easier to contend with.

I grew up in a town of 2,000. One of those on road games nights, "the last one out of town turn off the lights" kind of deals.
