Kilgore native and University of Texas standout Eddie Jones (32) is grabbed by an offensive lineman during the NFL Players Association’s Texas vs. The Nation game last Saturday at the Alamodome in San Antonio. Jones ultimately made the game’s biggest play, a tackle at the 1- yard-line with less than a minute left to prevent Team Nation from taking the lead and preserve the win for Team Texas. Also on Team Texas was TCU defensive end and former Kilgore High School standout Wayne Daniels (below). Both Daniels and Jones, as well as another Kilgore native, UT’s Michael Huey, are eligible for April’s NFL Draft. Daniels has been invited to the league’s combine this month. And former Kilgore High School standout Eddie Jones was a big reason why.
Jones, who just concluded his senior season at the University of Texas, was lining up at linebacker, and tackled Team Nation running back Damien Berry, a Miami standout, at the 1-yard line on fourth down to preserve a 13-7 win for Team Texas. Jones’ tackle came with just 55 seconds left in the game.
