Injuries to No. 2 Texas' top-two running backs could leave the Longhorns shorthanded entering their faceoff with Big 12 South rival Oklahoma.

Griffin ESPN.com's Tim Griffin writes about all things Big 12 in his conference blog.

Junior Vondrell McGee left Saturday's 38-14 victory over Colorado in Austin during the second half with an injured left shoulder, and freshman Tre' Newton suffered a mild concussion in the first half.

Texas' ground game struggled against the Buffaloes (1-4), who limited the Longhorns to 46 yards rushing.

Texas (5-0) trailed 14-10 at halftime before taking control behind their defense and special-teams play.

"We're trying to get better in the running game and it didn't work," coach Mack Brown said after the game. "We've just got to keep looking at it."

Get ready for a heavy dose of Cody Johnson and the speedster, DJ Monroe I'm bettin'.

Monroe's a great option out of our offense, with his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. He'd cause major match-up probs for the OU LB's IMO.

I think Whitaker is their best back anyways and they need to get him up to speed.

I hope Texas does some of the zone read this week with Colt and Fozzy.

I think they need to get Colt into the game early by running.

Yeah I do hope they open it up a little and let Colt run as he did last year. None of their backs are great, but the problem with the running game is the line. Line has been getting abused in the running game.

god texas has so many good RBs this year it really doesnt matter. The only one that has dissapointed me has been mcgee with his fumbles. my favorite is nate newton's son tre, he has looked really good, like he watches lots of emmitt smith film, i hope he will be fine and play vs OU

It doesn't matter, cause Greg Davis refuses to commit to the run.

Line-up in the I with Cody Johnson at FB, Whittaker or Monroe at RB, Buckner at TE, Shipley and Williams at WR. Put Colt under center. Run tosses, sweeps, off tackle, counters, dives, draws. Commit to the run early and often.

Thing is they do commit to the run..they run over and over at times even if it doesn't work just to hope it starts working, and to "practice" it. They admit that. The problem isn't the formation it's the blocking, and that goes to coaching because those are talented guys. You don't want a 215 pound tight end run blocking, and Williams wouldn't be a starter in a 2 receiver set, would probably be Chiles. Heck I don't even know if Williams usually gets in with 5 wide. Disappointing, physically he's like their version of Miles Austin in terms of size and speed.
