THIS IS FROM DCFANATIC BLOG....
When you think about Texas Tech you certainly aren't thinking about their defense that's for sure.
A lot of Cowboys fans in Texas want them to take a flier on Texas Tech QB Graham Harrell, but the player who may actually be in their sights is Free Safety Darcel McBath - Read here, here and here.
Draft Scout Darcel McBath News
03/20/09 - He reads, reacts quickly and arrives early to plays with startling closing speed. At the combine, he had a best of 4.58 seconds in the 40-yard dash and a vertical jump of 38 inches. He became a more vocal leader as a senior and made first-team All-Big 12 with plays against the pass (seven interceptions) and run (75 tackles). He earned all-conference honors in his sophomore and junior seasons, totaling 148 tackles and five interceptions in 2006 and 2007. - Frank Cooney, The SportsXchange, NFLDraftScout.com
He's not the biggest Safety at around 200lbs, but I think he can bulk up a bit and we know he has a whole bunch of experience in defending the pass.
Rick Gosselin spoke with him about just that, read here.
What the Big 12 saw one day each week from Tech on Saturdays, McBath and his fellow defenders saw five days every week in practice.
"I think I'll be ready to defend the pass in the NFL, that's for sure," McBath said. "We have one of the best receivers in the country and I thought we had the best quarterback in the country. It's always fun to compete against the best. We know they're going to throw and we tried to stop it. We had to up our game every day competing with that offense. Our defense got better as a result."
McBath (6-0, 198) certainly did. He intercepted a career-high six passes and made 70 tackles in 2008 to earn All-Big 12 honors and establish himself as an NFL draft prospect.
There should not be any doubt in our minds that the Cowboys are looking for a 'cover Safety' because Ken Hamlin can play Strong Safety. When I look at the Safeties on this roster I just don't see a guy who can make plays against the pass from sideline to sideline.
