AUSTIN – Here is the one bit of information you probably know about Tre' Newton, scheduled to start at running back for Texas in Saturday's Big 12 championship game: He's Nate Newton's boy. The sleek, speedy Longhorn is the son of the blubbery, lumbering ex-Cowboys lineman. Ponder the picture and marvel a mystery of gene transfer.

Here are some things you probably do not know about the 6-0, 200-pound Tre', a redshirt freshman who hopes to follow in his father's on-field footsteps and has been schooled to avoid the off-field missteps.

As loud and boisterous as Nathaniel Newton Jr.'s persona could be in the Cowboys locker room, Nathaniel Newton III's personality is quiet and reserved.

While Nate has been known to sometimes mangle the English language as a local ESPN radio personality, Tre' sounds as if he is preparing for a role in a Shakespearean drama, even if more than an occasional "you know" slips into his conversation.

Tre' was a National Honor Society member at Southlake Carroll, graduating in 3 ½ years so he could get a jump start at Texas in January 2008. He plans to graduate from college before his football eligibility is up. If all goes according to plan, he'll be working on a master's degree in business while running up and down the field for the Longhorns.

The kid has a VERY bright future!

This was my favorite part of the article:

Tre's sentences are punctuated with "yes sirs" and "no sirs." His eyes never wander from the conversation.

So many kids these days are soooooo clueless as to how far those 4 simple words can take you in life.
