That is Greg Davis for you he has always been a mediocre O coordinator but he is Mack's best buddy so he is going nowhere anytime soon. If he wanted a safe play a bubble screen to Shipley would make more freakin sense but instead he calls a shovel pass
IMHO, even that presents a situation where you have absolutely no chance whatsoever of anything good happening, and the chance of a disaster. They really should just have taken a knee and gone into the locker room to regroup.

He was the QB for back to back state championships at Lake Travis...

I've seen Gilbert play a few times in college... he can play...

The issue is that OC Greg Davis went in to run mode when Colt went out... UT isn't a running team...

He had a TD pass dropped... let him play the offense that Texas plays...
I can't criticize the guy based on what happens tonight. This ain't some October game against UTEP. You literally could not imagine a tougher situation for him to arrive into.

Gilbert has a better arm than Colt but does not have the intangibles that has made Colt one of the better college QB's. Gilbert did a great job coming in vs the #1 team in the nation as a freshman with pretty much no playing experience at this level. He clearly gives me hope that Texas will be able to compete at a high level next season.

the shovel pass is a safer play and it was open, blame the RB for bobbling the ball and #52 for blocking like a little girl.

I actually blame the coaches... they should have been kneeling at that point...

oh, I agree, especially since the Horns were getting the ball to start the second half but the play was there.

In Gilbert's defense, the ball was on the receiver's hands who juggled and bobbled it right to Alabama. But, as I mentioned above, I think that play falls squarely on the coach's shoulders.
Agree. However, relatively speaking, a shovel pass is considered low risk. The reciever was not aggressive in grabbing that ball. I'm still not sure Davis needed to make that call....get to the locker room and regroup. You get the ball right back and both the offense and defense will hopefully had settled down from the shell-shock of losing Colt after a halftime break and some coach-speak.

I understand why they made the call. Just that Bama had it defensed pretty well and the pass was ill advised. Had he kept it and ran with it, he probably would have been much better off. Doesn't matter, I have no problem with the call only because Texas had to open up the game plan and try to score points at some point in the game. The kid made a mistake and that's expected cconsidering. I will not fault the Coaching staff for the call, nor will I throw Gilbert under the bus. He made a mistake and hopefully, it's a mistake that will make him better in the future.

wow....a very mature response. Some here could take note vs playing the blame game all day.
