I guess they finally got smart enough to get Gideon off the field.

I marvel at the ease with which the Red Raider offense accrues yardage.

I'm also flabbergasted by some of the asinine remarks from the ABC announcing crew. Why was Herbstreit so impressed that Taylor Potts would throw for 300 yards in Austin? Can you name the last Tech quarterback who didn't throw for 300 yards in Austin?

When a quarterback plays in a pass oriented offense that throws the ball 50 times a game, he better have at least 300 yards passing; otherwise, his offense probably isn't moving the ball, and his team is most likely on the wrong end of a rout.

well it is pretty easy when you are allowed to blaintantly hold time and again.....

also, they play a hurry up shotgun. the WRs merely find holes in the zone and the QB hits them quickly.

im glad Texas won the game....but it was a crappy performance.

McCoy was off for pretty much the entire game, except when throwing to Shipley. I feel that part of the problem is the playcalling by Davis. I wish he would have more pass plays that involve the 10-20 yd range. I am so sick of the LOS passes. Tonight Colt was high on a lot of his throws. Both INTS happened cause the ball sailed high and the receiver tipped it while trying to reach for it. I am glad that Colt can have such a crappy game and the Horns still win by 10 against a very tough opponent. It bolds well for the later in the season.

I am sorry, but TT gets away with holding more than any team besides OU. Not only does their OL hold, but their WRs do as well. I won't say they hold on every play, but I counted about 7 or 8 obvious holds that were not called by the refs. One of the holds, the TT WR had a UT CB in a Heimlich Maneuver grasp.....How the side judge missed that one, I have no clue. BTW, Kindle did get away with roughing the QB on that one play, where he led with the helmet, but I dont care. Since TT was getting away with holding and even a few hands to the face, it was good to see UT get away with an obvious penalty.

I still wish they Horns would run more I-formation. Use Buckner as the TE, Shipley and Williams as the WRs, Cody Johnson as the FB, and rotate Newton, McGee, and Monroe at RB. I honestly feel we have the personnel to be a power running team, and yet also remain a finesse passing team. Since UTEP is up next, maybe we can practice some of this stuff in time for the OU, Mizzou, and OSU matchups.

I dont know who that safety is for Tech, but he is pretty darn good. He was all over the place tonight. Also, the guy who impressed me the most was that #20 Bird. He was living in the Horns backfield. I don't know if he is a LB or DB....but he is definitely a gamer.

Shipley would look good with a star on his helmet

So true-- he'd solve their kick/punt return problems in a hurry... and he has the skills to be a solid second receiver in the NFL...

Most important, though, he plays guitar better than Hutch ever did... but he can't sing a lick...

Colt is not himself. I wonder what is going on with him??

Well, he's been a slow starter in all 3 games this season... but I read that he might have a reason this week, he apparently had the flu earlier in the week...

McCoy finished with 205 yards and two interceptions on 24 of 34 passing for the Longhorns (3-0, 1-0 Big 12). After the game, the senior revealed he missed practice on Tuesday because of flu-like symptoms that he was dealing with most of the week.

I'm happy for Tre Newton

He's starting to look like he might be legit, isn't he??

I guess the key now is to keep him away from Daddy's stash, before he winds up 300 plus pounds... :D

That's what happens when you throw the ball 62 times in a game... I say holding Tech to 24 points in that situation really isn't too shabby...

Tech went in there, unranked, with a bunch of young, inexperienced guys and three defensive starters out and played pretty well, I thought.

Texas didn't look like the No. 2 team in the country to me.

:hammer:

We could have a VERY long thread discussing this.
Just like in the NFL (Patriots/Colts/Steelers) some teams seem to get away with holding waaaaaay more than others. It seems like the coaches meet with the refs before the game and the conversation goes something like this:

" Look guys, you need to give us a little lee-way on the offensive holding calls today, otherwise you will throw about 50 flags and guess who won't be calling anymore games in their career? Sorry, but that extra second or two of pass protection is what makes our offense go and the league is all about offense so watch it with the hankies"

I agree but a lot of that had to do with Colt McCoy looking like an average QB instead of what he actually is.

Once Colt starts going Texas will be tough to beat.

But like I said in another thread I have 2 big concerns with Texas...

1. Their ability to stop the run up the middle.

2. Their ability to run the ball up the middle offensively.

I wish I could add Terrence Cody and Greg Cooper to that team.

I think the solution to that is Newton, their running game has been pretty good when he's been in the game

He looks good. I do not deny that. But Texas has yet to establish the run early in the game and they haven't played a team that has a very good front 7 yet.

I like what I have seen from Tra though.

But at some point Texas is going to have to run the ball. Their is no excuse for the Longhorns to not have a power running game simply because of the state they recruit from.

Tech was daring Texas to run the ball last night. They were willing to give them 5 yards a pop, but Texas just didn't want to take it.

If Texas can run the ball and they get Colt going than they will be impossible to stop.

They have a lot more passing weapons this year than last.

I know im proud of our performance.

I played against Potts and Leong in High School, while I was at Copperas Cove and they were in Abilene.

It was the same thing. Potts has a CANNON but he's erratic and can make some bonehead plays.

I think our defense is still too unathletic to compete with the big boys its all about getting some more athetes to come play here, as tough as that may be.

Our O-Line looks, not good. Our WRs are better overall than they were last year.

Anyways, congrats to Texas.

I thought they did ok considering you guys pass all the time + Texas has some of the best defensive schemes out there.

I also like that RB Stephens. That guy is a tough runner. To bad he plays for Tech because his ability will go to waste.

If Leach would just try and get a little more balance so that he could Play Action more and freeze other teams linebackers than his offense could be impossible to stop.
