How long can someone wait after you have texted them before you consider them being rude?

If it's urgent or timely, you should call and/or leave a voicemail. Texting is the least formal mode of direct communication out there. It comes with no expectations of timeliness.

You guys missed a great opportunity here by responding to the post. If no one responded he would have been wondering about timely responses on message boards. :p:

On a serious note.

My wife sometimes will text multiple times to ask if I got the first text message and then ask when I get home why I did not reply. I tell her, you texted me after I got in the car and I do not check or answer the phone when I am driving.

Or if she is out shopping with her mom...I get done doing yard work outside (I don't take my phone when I am mowing) and I get done, take my shower and so on and then look at my phone to see a bunch of messages.

Point being...sometimes people are doing things or don't have their phones with them or they might have their phones with them but have them turned off because they are in a meeting or something. Just because someone does not text you back in a timely fashion it does not mean they are ignoring you.

Just something to think about.

Its a bit scary to me that this needed to be said. But I agree it needed to be said. The expectation some have of 24 x 7 access, and for ridiculous reasons... well, I don't care for it. :D

I consider texting rude unless it's an emergency and I'm not answering my phone.

The wife wears me out with the texting.

I mean it comes in handy for some things and on occasion I don't mind it but for the most part I find it annoying.

Here is one thing that annoys me.

Her --- Will you stop at the store and get (milk, cheese, bread or whatever item she needs).

Me --- OK ( I tend to keep my texting messages short :laugh2: )

Her --- OK

I don't know why it annoys me but I guess I am putting my phone away thinking the conversation is over after I say OK only to get another couple of buzzes and pulling the phone back out for the message that OK to my OK. :laugh2:

I am a little bit that way with email. Someone will email me and request something. (I'm a DBA)

I will email them back when it is complete, .. I'm done.

Then I get an email saying thanks. I don't need that email.

:D

A guy I used to work with once told how annoying it was when someone would respond to an email with just a Thanks....

So being the smart *** I am I would respond to every email....Thanks :muttley:

I had just one argument over texting before.

Received txt while getting hair cut, didn't notice I received a text.

20 minutes, phone call from my then girlfriend "hey did you get my text?".

Me.. "Nope, what was it?"

Ex-girlfriend... very angrily "I sent it 20 minutes ago, how could you not have read it?"

Me.. "Tell you what, I'll hang up, read your text and then call you back"

*click*

Never called back.

Wife --- Why are you going to the library?

Me --- Get a massage

Wife --- You don't have to be a smartblank

To this day I will tease her and Say I am going to stop by the library to get a massage.:laugh2:

I also hate this. Happens all the time, I have asked for it to stop, but that has not worked. :bang2:
