I consider texting rude unless it's an emergency and I'm not answering my phone.
Maybe its generational, but realistically, I'd way rather get a text message than have a 5 min phone conversation. It's just more efficient imo :laugh2:

I'm in the middle here. I don't mind quick text updates and whatnot.

ex. Hey, we're mtg at so-and-so restaurant? You wanna go?

Me: Yea, see you there.

I loathe long text conversations or text arguments. Pick up the dang phone!

My general rule: Three long texts and then I'm calling. If the person doesn't pick up, and I know they have no reason not to pick up, then I don't respond to anymore texts from them...well maybe with an OK. lol

I hate when people send me 3 sentences all as seperate texts. JUST SEND THEM AS ONE TEXT.

I hate talking on the phone.

Texting is a godsend.

I can start and end the conversation anytime I choose. Win/win to me.

Agreed. I'll send out a text in the morning saying, "ball tonight at 7?" Then when my friends had a chance they can get back to me.

I'm with you. If I don't answer the phone, I don't even have to ever see/hear what they had to say.

At least you get a reply from your wife.

I'll send a text and never get a reply. I'll call and she doesn't answer. I get home and ask why she didn't answer. Her reply is her phone was in another room. :bang2:

The reason you have a cell phone is to have it near you. :bang2:

My kids text well over 1,000 times a month. (probably 2-3k times). If I call them and they don't answer, they usually tell me that they didn't hear there phone because they left it "somewhere". I then proceed to take the phone away from them saying if they aren't going to keep it close, they don't need it.

Next time I call, they seem to answer it on the first ring. :laugh2:

I prefer to text as I don't have to talk to anyone that way ;)

My wife gets her phone through work and doesn't have a text plan and won't get one which I find annoying. I end up having to email her instead.

Damn texting....

I get in trouble all the time it seems......most times Im just too busy to respond....and then texts will come asking me...

"something wrong"

"u mad?"

"why arent you responding"

"stop being a jerk"

"nevermind...."

"why wont you respond?"

after all this crap..........I tell them Im just busy at work and cant just respond right away with text.

The other one that kills me....

IF I try to be sarcastic on text........ it never goes well.....

is there a sarcastic smiling face......on BB messenger?

Not getting a quick response from a text doesnt really bother me.....I text my daughter every day on how things are going ...and such.....she lives in a different city...going to school........sometimes I dont hear back for hours....I understand people are busy.

What really bothers me I guess and my ex wife did it and still does it....is when I try to phone her cell....she never answer....or its always off. I keep on asking ......why have a cell....if you never turn it on? She does the same thing with my daughter........

oh well......

How long can someone wait after you have texted them before you consider them being rude?
It really depends on how sensitive you are. :D

How can they answer it if you took it away?

J/K .. I know what you meant.

That's good parenting, let them make the choice. Answer the phone and keep it, .. or don't answer it and Dad keeps it. Their choice.

I had to laugh, when I first started reading your post and you said 1,000 texts, I laughed and said to myself, "try 2,000 texts."

And then saw .. (probably 2-3k times) :laugh2:

but why do they have to answer though, just because he said so?

Sam is probably talking tough. I don't see him in anyway like that goof on the youtube video who shot up his kid's computer for dissing him. Taking the phone away is only a couple of steps away from doing that.

Yes, they have to answer it. First off, they are 12 and 14 years old. I'm not calling to say hello, I'm calling for a damn good reason. I also pay for their phone, so you damn skippy they had better answer it when I call. They have the phone so I or their mother can get in contact with them. Not for their friends. That is just a side effect (read bonus) for them.

lol. Taking a phone away from your kids is only steps away from shooting a laptop?

I'm thinking you have a deductive reasoning deficiency. :lmao2:

Let me guess, being upset with someone is steps away from 1st degree murder too right? :laugh2:

I respond to every text I get. Only time there is a delay is if

a) I'm sleeping
b) I don't have my phone
c) I'm not in a position to answer it i.e. dinner, meeting, movie theater e.t.c.

So generally there is no more than a two hour delay to any text. I know people who will text you back like 2,3,4 days later, answering a question or responding as if whatever it is still relevant.

Like:

Me: Hey do you want to go to the movies tonight?
Response: None

4 days later: Yeah, which movie

Me: ... Are you being serious right now?

I hate making phone calls, but I will accept a phone conversation for long in depth conversations or conversations where things are lost in text. That said, I think texting can accomplish most things, while allowing you to multitask more so than being on a phone call.

six degrees of separation

there is probably nothing that important that if they don't answer, you have to take their phone away, it is a power thing you know it.

It has been quite a while that I have noticed but have not said anything. I don't agree with anything you say. Nothing.

At first I thought you were just jerking everyone around on the board, .. but I am beginning to fear that you are being serious.

Every post, every thread, .. I don't get it. We are different. I disagree with you. I'm sure you are glad, ... so am I.
