I don't mean that literally, but I just don't see Jerry making this trade under the old rules of paying a bazillion dollars to the top picks. Now you can go after the player you really want without paying the outrageous prices.

I think you are right.

This move was also a money play. They payed Scandrick mid range money. Had to over-pay for Carr because he was grabbed in free-agency.

If Jenkins has a good year we can't afford him and 3 other well paid CB's, when his contract is up next year.

Frees up money to fill other holes next year (or maybe this one - but I doubt he is worth much in trade with injury concerns - but he is like 27 and has a pro-bowl under his belt and a decent season last year).

I think the smarter play is to acquire more 1st rounders than to move up. The risk is now less severe with 1st rounders, but the rate of being a bust or a disappointment will still be the same.

I think a lot of this depends if we can get get a 2nd round pick for Jenkins and get either the safety or center/guard we want. I don't hate the actual pick itself, but at the expense of those other holes it's a bit iffy for me. That's why I give the pick a 'C' for now, but if we can make the trade to get a 2nd rounder we want to fill those holes, then I like this move even more.

I just don't view Claiborne as a risk at all.

If it were any other player I'd be a little worried but Claiborne is the biggest sure thing as a defender in this draft and one more natural looking DBs that I've seen.

1st and 2nd for a premium position is worth it IMO and guys like Hostile can't make anymore excuses for a Jag like Spencer.

I honestly don't think it should be that hard. He was a 1st round pick in '08 and played like a legit Pro Bowler in '09 and played like a borderline Pro Bowler last year despite a bum shoulder.

The thing about Jenkins is that his college coaches were dead on. He's a good kid. He likes the game and he has a lot of talent. But, you have to stay on him. Wade apparently never got the memo outside of '09 when Wade did initially toughen up on the team. I know it's a 'grown man's league', but part of coaching is to inspire and motivate as well.

I think the only thing that would make him iffy is his shoulder at this point. I would think that if I'm a coach on ANY team, that if his shoulder is okay, all he needs is some motivation. And if I can't provide him with that, then I shouldn't be coaching in the first place.

Well, I guess we will wait and see.

This was the most exciting 1st round I can ever remember. So many trades and it was all because of the new rookie pay scale.

That is a big if. I guess we can dream but it won't happen.
