When Travis Frederick is blowing open holes allowing Murray to rush for 150+ yards tomorrow and Terrance Williams catches 1 of Tony’s 4 TD passes, keep in mind why these guys are on the team. Two years ago, the Cowboys were poised to give their new defensive line coach a present by using their 1st round draft pick on Sharrif Floyd. But instead of accepting the help for his line, Rod Marinelli overruled the scouts and said that he didn’t need or want Floyd (because he wasn't "quick twitch enough" for his system). As a result, the Cowboys traded down with the 49ers and used the picks on Frederick and Williams. The offense as well as the defense owes a lot to Rod. In Rod I trust!

I have said the last two years that this trade was good for both Dallas and San Francisco. They both got what they needed.

49ers needed a safety - and Dallas needed players.

It just might be that Dallas landed two quality starters (one 2nd team All-Pro and Pro Bowler) and San Francisco got a starting safety.

Travis and Zack are about as good it gets when it comes to having a dominate o-line.

Where would we be without Frederick? And despite the criticism, Williams is a good receiver to have on your side.

Agreed, Williams is doing fine in my estimation. All reports I've read have indicated that Williams is serious about football, I really expect him to breakout yr 3.

Bigger question is where would we be with out Rod?

Although the best unit on our team is the offense, I think it is hard to say that Marinelli shouldn't be the Assistant coach of the year for the job he has done resurrecting this defense without a lot of resources. It is true that the offense has acted as shield to avoid over-exposing the defense but Marinelli has done a great job to bring down the points allowed, generate turnovers and protect the late game leads.

He's done a lot with a pretty bare cupboard. Can you imagine how beastly this defense would be after a good draft and maybe a decent FA signing or two? I think our window is going to be wiiiiiiiiide open for the next 3 years or so. Grab as many Super Bowls as you can hold.

It's one thing to draft four offensive lineman to incorporate a new philosophy. The intention was good.

What separates us that it is just stunning is that we hit big on all four picks! Those are long odds but I think we can all agree we were sure as hell due.

I'm not nitpicking here, just clarifying. Zach Martin is a 1st team All Pro, since the offensive line requires 2 guards. That's how I see it anyway.

Yes, it's unusual for a position coach to turn down a 1st round pick for his position group.

And to think, much of what was left for Marinelli to mold was what was an all time bad defense as well. Pus a departed DeMarcus Ware and Jason Hatcher.
