First of all I grew up in NJ and PA practically all my life, so I've gotten it from those two "other" teams in the NFC East. Yesterday while watching the Cowboys game, my family (Eagles fans) started to dog on Romo, which I was not fond of. I said well say whatever you want but Romo is still a top ten QB in the NFL. Of course they disagreed and said they could probably name 15 quarterbacks better than Romo. So my nephew started naming QB's like Manning, Brady, Brees, etc which I agreed with. Then he goes, "Aaron Rodgers is WAY better than Romo right now." That's when the fireworks exploded.

I gave valid points about how Rodgers has never been to the playoffs and went 6-10 as a first year starter, while Romo has been to the Pro Bowl twice and has taken his team to the playoffs twice. My nephews replied with, "Rodgers has a much better arm." Please tell me I'm not going delusional here, and that nearly getting into a serious, physical altercation with my brother would've been worth it because I was defending a top ten QB in the league who is CERTAINLY better than Aaron Rodgers at this point.

Why argue when you can just break their jaw?

I was pretty close to taking a shot, especially when my brother pulled out the youtube video from 2007 when Rodgers entered the game after we injured Favre. I go, "Oh right; this is the game where Romo threw for over 300 yards and 3 TD's; and we WON the game, right?" Total silence.

true that.

were they drunk? if so, here's a rule of thumb: don't argue with drunk people, women or kids.

I think I would have to say that in 2009 at least, Rodgers is having the better season. The only stat in which Romo is ahead is sacks. Rodgers has been sacked 44 times to 25 for Romo. Rodgers has completed more passes for a higher % and more yards, has more TDs and fewer INTs.

I would not take him over Romo, but he is having a better season so far and won the head to head matchup.

Please note, that as a Pac-10 homer I have been pretty critical of Rodgers. I think it was stupid of Green Bay to keep him over Favre.

I agree 100% with everything you said. I think Romo and Rodgers have their own unique style. Both have obvious flaws in which Romo has been known to turn the ball over more than the average QB (although he has improved greatly in midseason), while Rodgers holds the ball way too long at times. I give Rodgers the edge in terms of arm strength and a SLIGHT edge with physical intangibles. The big edge I give to Romo is his ability to extend the play, which sometimes results in HUGE plays for us, and times for the defense as well. For example, there was a play yesterday where Romo dropped back and a Raider DB had a free rush at Romo. Romo just spin moves the defender and fires the ball to Roy for 7 yards I believe. If that's Rodgers, he goes down like a ton of bricks. Yes, Rodgers is having the better season, but for the future I'll take Romo anyday.

In all honesty, I'd take Rodgers. He's younger, having the better season (behind a really bad OL) and I just love the way he throws the deep ball and slants.

A lot of his issues are that he has no pocket awareness at all. His oline isn't nearly as bad as he's making them look.

Good point. Which came first, the chicken or the egg? It could be the OL who is giving Rodgers problems, or Green Bay's OL isn't as bad as everyone thinks, and Rodgers just takes way too many sacks because of his lack of pocket awareness.

In terms of just pure throwing arm strength and mechanics.. Rogers may be an NFL prototype.. the guy just throws a nice ball.

Romo has a FAR superior record as a starter and may have better insticts. Not enough data on both for an accurate comparison.

I wouldn't say Rodgers is WAY better than Romo or vice versa, but I would say that the question who is better is a fair question and debate.. They're both pretty good and still have upside.

Right now, I will take Rodgers as well. He has a better arm and much more accurate. However!!!! if Romo plays like he did during the 4 game winning stretch when he hit open WRs and not turn the ball over, I would take THAT Romo over Rodgers any day and twice on Sundays.

I'm not taking Aaron Rodgers. He's going to be a good quarterback but I'm not taking anyone over Romo because he's our guy.

Good lord. Aaron Rodgers people are you serious? It's amazing what a couple of games can do to people's minds. Aaron Rodgers is really, really good? No he's not. He's having a very good year but it takes more than a small sample of games to be really, really good. Rodgers needs to get his team in the playoffs first. He's got a ways to go. I'll take Romo right now.
