#6 was in sights, and in almost a mirror universe version of SB LI, a strip sack / fumble recovery doomed the Patriots to a 5-5 Super Bowl record.

So first, because Pats fans are Humble in Victory, Gracious in Defeat, a hearty Congratz to the (few decent) Eagles fans .... to the others (the legion of iggle trolls) go suck an egg.

The are sure some stumpers regarding the Pats play in the game / game plan - The first and foremost has to be after seeing Eric Rowe getting torched, how could BB let Malcolm Butler ride the pine for the whole game???? Second whatever adjustments were made during the first half and half time, it wasn't working - not sure why the defense was running in a safety heavy formation.... which kinda leads back to point one. Third they just had no answer as to how to stop Blount and Addai, who just gashed the Pats up and down the field.

I believe the seeds of this defeat were planted two seasons ago, and those seeds have finally borne a real bitter fruit. By this I mean the dumping of Chandler Jones and Jamie Collins. The Pats could not get any real sustained pressure on Nick Foles, who just made play after play. He earned a well deserved Super Bowl MVP for his game. The Pats defense was completely ineffective, and had zero answers for the Eagles offense.

At the same time, as bad a s the defense was, Brady was just magnificent. Over 500 yards in the air, three TDs and one dropped pass - the old man had a pretty good game. Cant say enough good things about him, and maybe his play gained him a few more converts. Or maybe not.

Overall, it was a bummer seeing them fight so hard to come up short.

His walking off the field without even an acknowledgement of Nick Foles made him look like an ***. He seemed like he was all about sour grapes.

you guys have nothing to be bummed about.
Im not a Pats fan but I dont hate them.
I admire the hell out of the way your team handles business.
Belichick is this generations Coach Landry.
Brady....Staubach.
Who's gonna stop your team in the Afc???
Eventually, all good things come to an end...I never saw Feb,1989 coming....when Coach's great legacy was jerked out from under him.
At least Belichick will get to decide when he ends it.
Until then....enjoy it.
Hopefully,in all honesty...we beat you guys to get our #6.

If you get tired of Belichick over there in Foxboro I would to see him in Dallas.

Guess him catching up with Fletcher Cox after the game wasn't enough, huh? Eagles fans .... lets just say ... need to get some perspective... instead of enjoying the moment, you are complaining about Brady not shaking hands with Foles

Oh, sorry about that - if its up to me, he'd have an open ended contract / life time job

No actually Pats fans are an entitled bunch. It’s customary for QBs to shake hands before and after the game. Even in his presser he gave left handed compliments to the Eagles. He said they made one play on defense. Really? Even though the had settled for FGs instead of TDS? Shut up...

entitled? lol, ok... entitled to what? In case you hadn't noticed, I offered contratz to the eagles & their (decent) fans... guess I know which group you fall into ...

As for the eagles D... it was (almost) just as Bad as New Englands defense... The basically did make one play that night, but it counted... one or two plays different here or there, maybe its a different story... But that wasn't the story told last night, so.....

really man, enjoy the freakin Super Bowl Victory... Dont worry about a hand shake at the end of the game... I guarantee you Nick Foles aint worrying about it ...

No you know absolutely nothing about me, but thanks.

you are on a message board whining about a missing handshake and complaining about back handed comments made by the qb of a team your favorite team just beat in the super bowl... pretty much tells me all I need to know & you are welcome

Nice post, EC.

Teams rise, teams fall, happens every year. There will be a lot of changes in New England this coming season. Patricia walked out the door to Detroit, McD is leaving for Indy soon, pretty sure Scar is going to retire again... Hard to replace all those components over and over and play top tier football

I don't doubt that Belichick will have the team ready to play. At the same time though, everyone has to acknowledge that its a battle every year to make it thru the playoffs to earn a berth in the Super Bowl. And as you guys must be aware from all your successes in the 70's 80's and 90s that week in week out you are getting the best of your opponents week in week out. There is no let up.

And a Cowpoke / New England Super Bowl? I'd be down for that in a heartbeat. It would be a great way for New England to get #6 lol.

Brady defines a defense making a play as something beyond his control. He's right. The eagles had no answers for him. He was was off a little in the first half. Thats on him not a credit to the defense. The strip sack was a just a great defensive play and pretty much the only one the eagles made all night............which was one more than the patriots defense made. That was the difference in the game.

Actually, they got quite a bit of pressure in the first half and Jenkins made a huge play blowing up Cooks. I feel bad for him, but he was a runner at that point and was dumb for getting cute in the middle of the field.

I don't consider injuring a player to be making a huge play. Otherwise, it was just a tackle. And you certainly can't argue that Cooks being out made a difference unless you want to argue that Brady throws for 600+ with Cooks in the game. NE didn't punt. So, the pressure probably looked a lot worse on TV than in reality. Call me crazy, but i'm gonna take Brady's word over yours.

And you don't consider the play Mills made knocking the ball away from Gronk at the goal line making NE settle for a field goal a defensive play? Just curious. Or the fact that the Pats were less than 40% on third downs products of defensive plays? They had to settle for a couple of field goals as well, I guess in your eyes TDs didn't interest hem at that point.
Was it a great defensive game by the Eagles? Nope. But until that game they were giving up about 17.5 points per game. And unless teams plan on having Brady coming out of their tunnels next year I think we'll be ok. What I find funny is just how many people are surprised by the Eagles defense but no one is surprised about the Pats. And they game up 41 points. And to a offense missing it's franchise QB, LT and 3rd down RB. Bravo....

The pass to Gronk was a poor throw. Look, congrats on your team winning but your defense sucked all night until that strip sack. Brady shredded them. Good thing he was just a little off in the first half b/c if he had played the first half like he played the second half, the Pats would have put up 50 on you.
