#6 was in sights, and in almost a mirror universe version of SB LI, a strip sack / fumble recovery doomed the Patriots to a 5-5 Super Bowl record.
So first, because Pats fans are Humble in Victory, Gracious in Defeat, a hearty Congratz to the (few decent) Eagles fans .... to the others (the legion of iggle trolls) go suck an egg.
The are sure some stumpers regarding the Pats play in the game / game plan - The first and foremost has to be after seeing Eric Rowe getting torched, how could BB let Malcolm Butler ride the pine for the whole game???? Second whatever adjustments were made during the first half and half time, it wasn't working - not sure why the defense was running in a safety heavy formation.... which kinda leads back to point one. Third they just had no answer as to how to stop Blount and Addai, who just gashed the Pats up and down the field.
I believe the seeds of this defeat were planted two seasons ago, and those seeds have finally borne a real bitter fruit. By this I mean the dumping of Chandler Jones and Jamie Collins. The Pats could not get any real sustained pressure on Nick Foles, who just made play after play. He earned a well deserved Super Bowl MVP for his game. The Pats defense was completely ineffective, and had zero answers for the Eagles offense.
At the same time, as bad a s the defense was, Brady was just magnificent. Over 500 yards in the air, three TDs and one dropped pass - the old man had a pretty good game. Cant say enough good things about him, and maybe his play gained him a few more converts. Or maybe not.
Overall, it was a bummer seeing them fight so hard to come up short.
