The 1-3 Thread

Jerry did Hire Jimmy Johnson some time ago and that worked out very well for us.

He's just stuck trying to prove he can win without Jimmy and is a very stubborn man. He's going to reach his breaking point though if we hit 1-3.
I doubt it. Proof? Here you go: https://www.usatoday.com/story/spor...layoffs-or-bust-for-cowboys-garrett/37144043/

The Jones' and company are still living on 2014 and 2016...and the article betrays the fact that they are quite comfortable with mediocrity as long as the stadium remains full.

I will say I have seen countless posts, comparing Dak to Brady or Rodgers etc. all the time when the comparison isn't favorable. Numerous, well Brady can get the job done without a #1WR, Rodgers makes others around him better, or Romo had Linehan as an OC too and look at his numbers. Dak is not nor will he ever be Rodgers or Brady, but who is? Yet, he's always compared to all time greats when it's convenient to bash him. Dak is the QB for now, he doesn't look like the future, but there are other problems with this offense, staff and philosophy that Dak's poor play is exposing.

I said it in another thread, Dak isn't the cause, he's the symptom of a larger problem within this organization. A better QB would be a bandaid and not a real fix for what is ailing this team. There are ways this staff could improve what we have right now. Zeke has 15, 16 17 carries in 3 games. Why is our elite RB averaging less than 18 carries a game? Why are we putting the games on a struggling QB instead of an elite RB. I hear it's because of stacked boxes, but yet he's the leading rusher in the league with a pretty decent average. Why do they go away from plays that work and constantly go back to ones that don't? His struggles were evident at the end of last season, but didn't try to upgrade the talent. If we had a franchise QB, would this really be the WR/TE talent that you would want around him?
I agree ownership has screwed the coaching staff by not investing in the skill positions. But the coaches don't pick the players. They've been saddled with an impossible task. What some fans see as bad play calling, is trying any gimmicky plays to get yards. Especially on first down. They are scared to death when Dak gets behind the chains.

No, reading a defense and making accurate throws defines a QB and Dak is lacking in both categories.

The coaches don't pick the players but they do have some input. Bad playcalling is adversely affecting this team, we're not trying gimmick plays, we habitually keep running plays that haven't been succeeding and go away from plays that work. Go read the first post in this thread about the breakdown of playcalling, especially on 1st downs https://cowboyszone.com/threads/off...-playcalling-to-weakness-not-strength.415676/

We have had 1st and 10, 72 times of those times 44 were passes and 26 were carries by Zeke. Zeke ranks 2nd in the NFL on yards per carry with 7.4 on 1st and 10, of the 44 pass attempts we've had 5 sacks and 2 INTs with a 6.6 yds per attempt which is near the bottom of the league on 1st and 10. Those few stats start painting a disturbing picture of the philosophy and mindset of our coaching. Zeke has been much more successful than Dak on 1st and 10, yet we have called near double the amount of pass plays. Does that make sense? Wouldn't that start to make you question the coaching and reasoning behind that decision? This team is bashing it's head against the wall and wondering why we have a headache.

We were built to be a ball control run first offense, but we refuse to run first. How does that make any sense, especially when you look at the money, draft capital and stats behind those decisions. We're built to run, the talent and money is behind running the ball, and stats are showing we are having more success running the ball on 1st and 10, but we decide to overwhelming call pass plays with a QB we know is struggling.

It's easy to bash Dak and he certainly deserves his fair share, the QB is the most visible and will take the brunt of the blame, but maybe take a look at what else we're doing or in this case not doing to help the situation. The coaching staff is not playing to the team's strength's, but to the team's weakness. That is not the sign of good coaching.
