As free agency and the draft approaches, I believe it is time for the fans to be heard in relation to expectations of our players, current and future.

I've been a Cowboys fan for 31 of my 40 years on this planet. There are fans on this forum who are more knowledgeable about the history of the organization, the players who played for it, statistics, etc.

But has anyone ever from a fan's point of view pointed out EXACTLY what the history of the Cowboys, the great players within that history, the achievements of the Dallas Cowboys in its 52 year odyssey to being the overwhelmingly most popular, controversial, and polarizing professional sports franchise of all time- has meant in terms of its burden on the franchise, its coaches, and most of all its players?

It is a challenge to ALL players who don the Star. It is a welcome burden for any player that wears the Star. These are the EXPECTATIONS that must be unwaveringly demanded for a return to glory.

I give you the 10 Cowboys Commandments.

1) I will represent myself and organization with the greatest effort to remember that it was for the love of football I am where I am today as a member of the Dallas Cowboys professional football team, and carry that very passion with me practice to practice, game to game, without reservation.

2) I will play football for the Dallas Cowboys with a reverance to being the best player I can be, for myself, my teammates, my family, my future in the National Football League.

3) I will recognize that I am a member of the 5x Super Bowl Champion Dallas Cowboys and will demand the same level of success for myself, my coaches, my teammates via hardwork, competition, humility, and respect to the game of football at a standard which some would seem impossible.

4) I will trust my coaches who will daily command flawless excellence in technique, execution, and preparation.

5) I will play within and beyond my talents by being 100% mentally and physically prepared to make plays in games, in crucial moments, and in front of huge audiences.

6) I will relish the challenge of being a Dallas Cowboy, I will not shy from the spotlight I will own it with my teammates, and I will take ownership of my shortcomings and work tirelessly to improve on those.

5) I will defend the Dallas Cowboys homefield with extreme prejudice and complete contempt for opposing clubs who believe they will carry the day in my home stadium- regardless of the affection, history, or genuine care I have for my peers on opposing teams.

6) I will play fast, smart, and clean. I will know my assignments on each play, each game, and I will NEVER for the slightest instance- acknowledge defeat under any circumstance- within the 60 minutes of play each game.

7) If and when I or my teammates are beaten I will be a professional, a Dallas Cowboy, and put the game behind me and accept the challenge of the following week with new EXPECTATION of victory.

8) I will invade opposing stadiums with the EXPECTATION of victory, regardless of circumstance, anywhere in the world.

9) I will find the leader in myself, and assist other Dallas Cowboys teammates to find their best possible football player, person, and teammate within themselves.

10) I will hold the Vince Lombardi Trophy with my teammates, as a Dallas Cowboy.

Unfortunately, most players will follow those 10 commandments about as well as most people follow the 10 given to Moses.

I agree with them, I just don't see that much character in a lot of the current players.

It sounds great except isn't it pretty much the same concept stated different ways? :D Just kidding!

With your permission, I'd like to print this out and put in on my man-cave wall!!!1!!1!11 Maybe work it into a pre-game ritual or even post it in every Gameday Thread.

To the poster who thought it was a repititious concept, I readily admit it is a bit repititious, but there are several DIFFERENT VENUES of preparation, execution, and execution. Practice, games, and environment- which demand a different angle of challenge to a player.

If I came across as being mean, it wasn't my intent .... just having a little fun with you. No offense intended. :)

Only have 1 commandment. Want your pay check go earn it.

Unfortunately players union frowns on this. :laugh2:

Additionally, since it is directed at the players, maybe they need that repetition. :)

I readily admit I am a bit dramatic in my reverance to the Cowboys. It's just been so long that I've seen a Cowboys team fielded with it's chin high ready to run roughshod with brutal efficiency and singleminded determination.

I thought of one player on this particular Cowboy club that I truly believe has the champion stamp on his heart- Sean Lee.

Unfortunately I can count the number of players that follow this on 1 hand currently.

The part about defending homefield especially made me laugh, we have not even beat the Giants at home yet and freaking Manning has scribbled all over our lockerroom walls.

No offense to you bro, it is a cool list, but this current group of Cowboys would use this list a TP.
