Obviously the weakest part of our defense was interior DL. Undoubtedly, Dal will have to address the position via FA and/or the draft preferably. Unfortunately, Dal has more than one position on Defense that needs attention and possibly will garner a higher draft pick. That said.. if your looking for a mid round DT, more specifically a 1T, that will eat up space.. look no further..

You want Marvin Wilson (Florida State). 6’5” 310lbs

Everyone needs to get familiar with his name. He’s huge, has some pass rush ability, and stands his ground vs double teams. He’s strong at the point of attack, bats balls down, and stays active throughout the play. He’s exactly what Dal needs to shore up the DL. With Quinn’s simplified scheme.. Add Wilson, welcome a couple injured guys back, and sprinkle in a couple of low cost vets to complete.. this DL would change drastically.

Projections:
Tristen Hill was trending upward after a “growing up” phase rookie season. He was one of the few actually improving under Nolan’s complex scheme. DL coach Tomsula may have had more to do with his improvement though. On the other hand, Quinn has proven he can get more from lesser talent. Hill will be fine at 3T if healthy

Gallimore was a bright spot at DT as a rookie and should build on that success. There’s no reason to believe otherwise. His sophomore season will be exciting to watch, exp if he has a true 1T that commands double teams and allows him to cont to win one-on-one matchups.

McCoy was exactly what Dal envisioned before his injury. All reports was that he really was working with the young guys, as they gravitated to his work ethic and tutelage. Imo, he still is very capable, unlike Poe, to be disruptive and definitely wouldn’t be a detriment. Rumor has it that Dallas has a handshake deal to come back. I’m good with it if the money is right.

Supposedly, there’s going to be a plethora of DTs available in FA. If so, signing another veteran (or two) would be ideal to fortify our run defense. No matter whom they decide is the right fit.. I believe you can’t go wrong starting with a big/nasty 1T like Wilson.

Voch does a great job reviewing him here:

Fill free to add any other “Mid Round” DT in this draft that you feel is worthy. I love the speculation

I have bad visions of him in the ND game when he got mauled by the ND OL at times.

Im curious about his decline and bad showing at senior bowl practices. Wilson who you take on day 3 if we miss out on McNeil and Shelvin on day 2.

Wilson is a player who will need a solid scheme and coaching to be successful in this league.

He lands in a Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Los Angeles he will end up a Pro bowler. If he lands on a bad team I don’t see him being any better than Trysten Hill.

He hasn't lived up to his early hype and has actually declined in many areas of his game. He will most likely fall, possibly all the way down into the the 4th rd.

Wilson, at this point in time, reminds me of D. Poe - a big guy that so desperately wants to be a 3T/smaller guy even when their bodies/size scream strong guy.

You're not winning more than 6 games with Marvin Wilson, Hill, and Gallimore as your tackles.

He is maybe the most disappointing player in this draft class.

I thought he'd be top 15 player before last season but he proved to be lazy and is the kind of guy we don't need imo.

Alim McNeil is a guy I think we should be targeting

i like wilson.
i'd gamble on him.
i also like bobby brown, texas a&m...love his size...strong vs the run...can get home to the QB.
others:
tedarrell slaton,florida
naquan jones,michigan st
taquon graham,texas
kareem campbell,florida

my 3 favs tho...barmore,levi from washington and nixon, iowa.

So, since Trysten is starting to come around and could be good, you think Wilson will be good then, right?

There is no evidence that Trysten was doing any such thing, other than he was named a starter on the worst defense in the league

Hill was rated the worst DT last season.

People are confusing hustle with talent. Hill looks improved because he finally started busting his *** to make plays.

I’m not bashing Hill and want him to come around. I am close with the UCF program and always cheer for their guys so I hope Hill continues to improve.
