We have yet to hit the halfway mark on the season; merely just one game away. After watching yesterday's gratifying performance, I couldn't help but think of the 91-92' Cowboys. Most of us know that team very well. It was the start of a dynasty, but that dynasty had already begun to take shape before the 91' season began.
Before this game, I remember uttering aloud, "We are not losing this game. We will not lose."
I said the same thing during the Texans game, even while trailing.
The Giants took the lead in the first half, and immediately thoughts of recent Cowboys memories began filling my head. A little bit of doubt began to creep and seep into my initial jubilation. I again repeated, "We are not going to lose this game."
After all, we spotted the mighty World Champion Seahawks 10 points at the dreaded Home of the 12th Man; a place nobody wins, especially after handing the champs a two possession cushion.
I will tell you this, that doubt subsided quickly. After marching 93 yards for a touchdown, it was apparent that this Cowboys team had different plans. This team that we are falling in love with week in and week out is not the same team we had envisioned at the beginning of the offseason.
These Cowboys have an aura about them. They are beginning to believe in something that most fans thought was impossible. This team plays a lot like the early 90's teams did. Wear your opponent down, and execute during crucial moments. Both sides of the ball are playing for one another. It's a family out there. One brother taking up for the other brother.
We are beginning to see this Cowboys team emulate those 90's Cowboys. These Cowboys, once the victim and the punching bag, are turning into the bully once again. It's simple. We will run the ball. Try and stop us. If you are succeeding in stopping the run, we'll pass the ball. Try and stop us. We simplified the game because we have the pieces now in place to execute, and it's driving the opponents insane.
Steve Smith said it best while mic'ed up, "You can try and stop me, but you can't contain me!"
This is what I see unfolding when the Cowboys take the field in 2014. How far we go is yet to be determined, but the journey has never been more fun, unless you're familiar with the 90's Cowboys.
