This is what we should do with the next 3 years of Daks contract:

1. ZERO "win now" type of moves. Do not trade for any Amari Coopers, do not sign any high priced FAs, and do not resign any of our guys we have now to market setting contracts. If they are young and have earned a new deal, then okay, but don't jump the gun on them like you did Zeke and Jaylon. And most of all, don't over pay.

2. After 3 years Parsons should be the only big money contract we have. I am not sold on Lamb and Diggs just yet. Also, DO NOT waste money on a RB ever again. They are a dime a dozen.

3. Gregory, D-Law, Smith, Martin, Zeke, Pollard, Schultz, LVE, Gallup, Cooper all should be gone after 3 years. None of those guys should still be around.

4. McCarthy should be gone within the next two years and a new coach, hopefully younger, innovative, and hard nosed should have his system fully in place by the end of year 3.

5. Draft a QB high in the draft either this year or next, either 1st or 2nd round, and let him set behind Dak for at least a year. There's no need to throw him to the fire. Let him learn. The new coach should have at least 1 full season with this draft pick learning behind Dak.

6. Build a solid foundation of players. I don't mean a bunch of high paid guys that are babied, but instead a bunch of guys that are dependable, reliable, and most importantly holds each other accountable. We don't need any Hot Boyz or any of that junk.

6. When Dak's contract is finally off the books we hand the keys over to either the QB we have drafted in the 1st or 2nd round that's been learning and shown he is right for the job or, if available and worth it, a veteran QB that can take things to a new level. Maybe Justin Herbert or Joe Burrow have a falling out with their organization? We can hope! What I really want is to draft a real 1st or 2nd round talent. I'm tired of the undrafted/4th round picks. When push comes to shove they always revert back to who they really are. Tom Brady is an outlier! Stop trying to find the next one!

I know this is all unrealistic, because Jerry Jones would never commit to this. I also understand that this would all take some luck. I just don't feel like this group of guys we have right now can win anything. If they were going to this year was going to be the year, because now everyone is a year older and there's not going to be enough cap space to go around. We're just going to get worse going forward because of a couple horrible contracts.

I would just add one point although you probably touched on it, do not restructure with the intention of potentially extending Dak's contract at any point. Whatever happens let's just get it off the books as soon as we can and not throw good money after bad.

Agree with a lot of that

With current bad contracts, and aging lineman, the best course is to build around the one undeniable talent the team has…..Micah

flipping the offense will take time but if Micah is still a part of this team by the time it happens it could be successful……I have zero faith in our current offense

Once it becomes clear to Daks agent that not taking all you could when you had the chance so you could cash in again was extremely stupid, expect an extension.....and for that contract to be restructured constantly.

It will NOT be easy to get Jerry away from Prescott.

Doubling down on dumb is constant.

We are pretty much stuck....for a while.

this is not a bad plan at all. few tweaks and comments I would do.

1- agreed. no more big money contracts. stop playing fantasy football.

2- Parsons is a must resign. I love his leadership, he is much more mature than a lot of the older guys on the team. he is the emotional leader of the defense already. Although I like Diggs and his interceptions, I think he is too focused on getting interceptions than stopping the pass. he had several awful plays against the niners. His schtick is to trail the reciever and use his body length and long arms and his speed to catch up and intercept the ball. he had really bad game against SF. I like CD, but he needs to step up and be dominant and stop the drops before handing him his next contract.

3- agreed, on most of those guys. in fact D-Law should be gone this year, so is Gallup, LVE. Zeke should be gone next year, along with Smith. I would actually prefer to trade/cut Cooper and resign Gallup. he is a much tougher WR than cooper. given his injuries, he may come cheaper. I would see if we can resign Pollard to a reasonable contract, with Zeke being gone next year in mind, but if its not a bargain contract...move on...RBs are easy to find in the draft. I hated that we drafted Zeke 4th...I would never take a RB in the top 15 and they have to be Zeke like in college for me to consider them in bottom half of the draft. I wouldn't mind keeping Shcultz on a reasonable contract....let me repeat. reasonable. Also, I would look to see if we can trade Martin...don't get me wrong. I love the guy. but 14/15M against the cap for a guard.... I have asked this before and I will ask it again. Name the starting guards in the CCGs for the past three years. I bet 99% of people can't...you dont' go to the superbowl because you have the best Guard in the league..... good guards can be found and had cheaper. again, I love martin, but not worth 14M.

4- Moore should be gone before MaCarthy....Moore seemed innovative at first. I said it last year, I said it in preseason. He is new, he seems to have some success, he is learning and will make mistakes, but eventually give enough tape to NFL DCs and they will find your weaknesses and they will tear your scheme up unless you adjust....and he never adjusted. Denver was right, they figured out how to stop the Dallas offense and defense and gave a blue print to the league....Moore never recovered from that. he called and awful awful awful game against Niners....pathetic.

5- I am not sold on either top rated QBs coming out this year. so I will wait until more draft analysis, but I don't want to reach because I want something. often that doesn't work out. I think our weakness this year was OL...they were pathetic at times. Williams and Biadasz sucked. below average. so 1st couple of rounds I want OL men. if there is a highly rated center, ala fredrick then take him with the 24th pick and don't look back.... this offensive line is bad and old any more.....and this would bode well for any other QB that we may draft later or in the future...Dak was protected in 2016 with a great OL....any rookie we bring in could benefit from the same thing. NE did the same with Mac Jones

6- 4 out of 5 first round QBs fail in the NFL....more in lower rounds....so if we go that route, we are probably in for a ride to find that QB.....the chances are much higher if you draft top 10....unless we have a lot of injuries, end up with a losing record and draft in top 10, doubt if get a chance at a highly rated one...again I don't want to draft a QB that clearly has flaws, but we are desparate to get rid of Dak so we hop over the fence only to find out the grass isn't really greener on the otherside......do we/should we take a chance...yes, but not out of desparation...

and yes, Jerry thinks a few tweaks. and this team is ready.....I expect a 7-10 to 9-8 season next year.

That looks like a high draft pick to me.

We're not winning anything with Dak anyways, so whatever we do in the next 3 years should be focused towards the team after Dak.

Dak will be off the books after that season and then we can finally right this ship.

all of this is fine. You can accomplish all of this without 90% of the other things you listed

Great points.

The bad thing about 7-10 or 9-8 is we're now in that Romo just good enough to be average stage. Where we are a fringe contender for parts of the season, but fail out and miss the playoffs in the last couple weeks or so and end up with a middle of the road draft pick.

I'd much rather go 3-14 over 7-10. We're missing the playoffs in both those cases, but at 3-14 we have a better shot at getting a real stud in the draft. If we went 8-8 in 2020, yeah we would've made the playoffs, only because the division was historically bad, and then got destroyed by Tampa Bay, but we wouldn't have Micah Parson right now.

 OP and his obsession with Dak
My obsession is with the Dallas Cowboys.

It's kind of hard to talk about ways to get better and improve without mentioning the 40 million dollar a year elephant in the room.

You were wrong about Dak. I wasn't. Maybe you should pay attention instead of whining about people giving suggestions on how this team can be better in the future.

There is some value in the OP, but reality is the team isn't going to be better in 3 years if there are no players except Parsons that have earned big money contracts. You can expect a team full of top players still in the rookie contracts. There have to be some proven vets as well.

I'll take proven vets, but I don't want to over pay guys.

Parsons is the only guys I'm sold on RIGHT NOW, but that don't mean somebody else won't come along in the next 3 years and earn it.

Get rid of all of our good players....to rely on hitting on the draft as good as we have to build out the roster...all to have a 1 in 10 chance of finding a QB better than Dak in the last half of the first round.

Yikes.

This is the most rational plan. There is virtually nothing that can be done with the current group to turn them into contenders outside of a coaching overhaul (which isn't happening).

Dallas feels like the mid 80's to me right now, right before the fall. Those were some painful years and it lasted a while.

If you want to go extreme, trade any of the older guys you can. Martin, Tyron?, Tank? Just turn them into draft picks while they still have value. I guarantee that Jerry won't do that. As someone said in a different thread, 9-8 is Jerry's sweet spot. He is going to fight tooth and nail to put together a team that is marginally relevant.

Yes. When you are middling in the middle then you end up just outside of potential impact draft picks. That's what happened to Landry at the end as well. Until we had a couple of 3 and a 1 win seasons. Same with Romo as u said.

Problem is Jerry doesn't see it that way. He thinks a few tweaks. A new head coach and it's all fixed
