The adventures of getting car fixed at dealership

....We bought a Versa 2012 some 8 yrs ago. Its been a great car. Very low maintenance, good mileage, handles fantastic. Fast forward to recent times. The service engine soon lit up one day, and stayed on.

I thought no biggie, probably needs oil change, tune up or something relevant. So lets take it dealership. Although, my gut was saying, "Take it to Chucks on corner of F".

So I go in with mentality of $300-$600. Dude comes out with clipboard and paperwork. I show him the light, and if they could check tire pressure and fluids, that would be great. He says, will do quick diagnostic.

...................4 hrs later. I get a web-link on my phone. Please visit web link review final analysis.

I dial in some info, hit Enter. $5,640 cost to fix car. Please scroll down and check the box, as to what you want repaired.........lol... I'm developing PTSD issues being on that page.

...I call, Chucks. They say, bring it in Tuesday. Paid $850

That's bad, even for a dealership. Maybe you should report them to the BBB.

..I hear ya, Runny. I dont think you cant put dent into Nissan Dealership. They probably have peeps in BBB working for them. You know, Red Tape in such.

I've never heard of anyone having their claws in the BBB, but if they did, it would be the Nissan Corporation, not a dealership. I believe those are privately owned franchises, but I could be mistaken.

I can beat that. You can find the long thread I posted a while back about my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee somewhere but the short of it is I had a warning light go on saying something about my air suspension system needed immediate repair. I took the car into the dealer having no idea what the warning meant but after charging me $1400 for rear brakes the dealer told me the air suspension system air pump and air bags were bad. He wanted another $5600 to fix it. I said no. I got the car home and did some research. I found a blown fuse under the hood and replaced it for $5. Viola! Air suspension system fixed, warning light went away and the car has been fine for months now.

Dealers are robbers and they get away with it.

Going to a dealership for anything other than warranty work should be the very last resort.
and even for that you make sure you have a signed statement that they will do nothing more than that warranty work without your express permission first.
AND make sure you take a copy of that paperwork with you if you have to leave the vehicle there.
