Report: A.J. Hawk to sign new 5 year deal with Packers

3/2/2011 11:26:48 PM

Lance Allen of NBC4 in Milwaukee reports linebacker A.J. Hawk is scheduled to fly back to Green Bay on Thursday, and sign a new 5-year deal according to two sources. Terms not disclosed. The Packers didn't have deal fully completed before they had to release Hawk. But Hawk will come to Lambeau Field to sign the new contract before the collective bargaining agreement is set to expire on Thursday at midnight.

He's got to be costing something. He's signed for the 5 best years of his career.

Thanks for the info, Hos...what a nice pipedream while it lasted...:)

The guy was not that good...did you all see his stats? Barely better than Carpenter.

Good. He wasn't good enough to play here. Not for me anyway.
Then I'm guessing most of the current roster isn't either.

I did not have any dreams about him so...Meh

Yeah -- my thought too.... we had the 31st ranked defense the Packers had the 2nd ranked defense... me thinks most of their players on defense (and some of their backups) are plenty good enough to play for us -- Hawk included.

AJ Hawk had a lot less to do with that Ds success than about 5 other players did. He is about the 6th or so best player on that D. Which would put him around relatively speaking Bradie James or Brookings. ANd the money he would want-not worth it.

Interesting.

You feel better about going forward with Lee?

I agree with this -- he wasn't a playmaker for them. Their base defense is basically a 2-4-5 and the absolutely depended on the ILBs to stuff the run due to the lack of big DL upfront in that formation and he and Bishop did that job and did it well. They didn't ask much more from them. Both are 250 pounders who by design in that defense are supposed to run downhill and handle the running game.

I'm not sure our defense is going to be configured like the Packer's 2-4-5 or their Pyscho defense.

That is ridiculous. Stats don't always make the player. This guy was far better than Carpenter.

I hope that's a joke. Carps career numbers are about what Hawk averaged per year statistically.

You think he's better than Bradie James? Because that's who plays at the same position.

More upside than Sean Lee?

Give it a rest. Just because Green Bay won the Super Bowl doesn't mean everyone on their roster is head and shoulders better than the rest of the league.

The guy can't cover any better than Bradie or Brooking. Better off not pursuing.

Point taken, however come on Cas -- with Sean Lee were are talking about a player we know very little about. He had 32 Tackles and 0 Sacks (with 2 INTS) in 0 starts. If we was so wonderful you think he would have displaced Brooking who was probably one of the worst 2-3 ILBs in the NFL last year.

I sure hope he is better than AJ Hawk, however, we'll see.

There go my hopes of a Super Bowl. :( A.J. Hawk would have put the Cowboys over the top. He's a god. He would have cured this defense's ills. He would have made every tackle behind the LOS and intercepted every pass. He is the real Waterboy.

I'm being facetious in case your wondering.

What we do know about Lee is that in the course of his first season, he suffered 5 or 6 injuries which were significant enough to limit his playing/practice time.

Not a good start for a guy with whom the major concern coming out of college was durability.
