Someone else in this thread touched on this ... they try to dub another team "America's Team" at least, what? Every other year? And how do they always frame the story? They can't do it without mentioning Dallas Cowboys by the end of the first paragraph. You'd think that would tell them something, but they never learn. Let's do a random survey (not a push poll like they're doing)...walk up to 100 random people on the street and ask them "What NFL team is known as America's Team?" I guarantee you, most people won't say the Saints, Patriots, or Packers.

I remember reading the old " Dallas Cowboy Weekly" paper that the Star magazine replaced and it said that the Cowboys sold more merchandise by themselves than all the rest of the NFL combined. Much of it was due to high sales in foreign countries. This was about the same time that the Cowboys was labeled as America's Team and was at the height of their popularity. You have a good point that the Cowboys was the Earth's Team. Those were great years that had Roger during his prime, the Doomsday Defense and Landry running the show.

Is it just coincidence that America and the Cowboys are not their best at the same time? I think they'll both see better days.

Nobody hates the Cowboys anymore except their division, most of the country will be wanting you to win on Sunday everyone hates the Patriots more because we win and we rub it in your face and we cheat and no one can stop us.

Silly Harris Poll. The label "America's Team" wasn't put on the Dallas Cowboys yesterday. It was put on the team in the 1970s. At that time, the Cowboys were more popular than all other teams COMBINED.

In 2015 (and for a long time now), the term "America's Team" hasn't meant the Dallas Cowboys are the most popular team. It's a label now. I don't deny that there are other teams who might exceed the Cowboys in popularity now, but any other team that would try to use that moniker would appear silly. That label is so closely associated with the Dallas Cowboys, SI can't write an article about how popular other teams are without mentioning "Dallas Cowboys" by the end of the first paragraph.

I don't think so. When you factor in both the love and hate, the Dallas Cowboys are the most "popular" team in America. On a global scale, soccer fans are more rabid, but you'd be hard-pressed to find a team more well known than the Cowboys.
