Every year this topic comes up and the media loves to hate on the Cowboys because they know it generates a lot of clicks and views, and let's face it, 30 years of post-season failure makes them an easy and justifiable target.

Every year they designate some other team as the real "America's Team". Their easy-in-the-moment picks were the Patriots for years with more recently it being the Chiefs every other year and sometimes the Eagles because they have a great year every so often.

There were even some media pushing for the Detroit Lions becoming America's Team over the last couple of years after they finally won their first playoff game in 30+ years.

As long as the Cowboys generate high TV ratings, dominate the news and continue having a lot of people loving or hating them more than other teams, the Cowboys will remain "America's Team".

If/when the Cowboys ever win another Super Bowl, the "America's Team" title debate will reset immediately and sports media will be saturated with "America's Team is back!" headlines.

Until then, the media will continue to generate clicks and views from Cowboys homers and haters while many Cowboys fans try their best to guilt the Jones family into making big changes by supporting the, "Dallas Cowboys are no longer America's Team" narrative.

Personally, I don't care who claims ownership of the "America's Team" title.

The only thing I care about is winning Super Bowls and one day it would nice for the Cowboys to win one or more of those again to justify the unwavering support by millions of Cowboys fans after 30 years of failed seasons.

I agree

Guarantee if I started following another team...it would end up the most toxic team in the NFL on quixk fashion...

QB controversy, ownership issues, coaching issues, players with off field issues...

What's the most well run team in football with low drama?

The problem with most (not all) teams is that the moment they lose their star players or start having losing seasons, they are an afterthought.

Think about the Patriots.

They were probably the closest team to the Cowboys to claiming the "America's Team" title during the Tom Brady years. Their name is "Patriots", their colors are red, white, blue and silver. Even their symbol on their helmet screams "America!"

Most importantly, they won 6 Super Bowls over the course of 17 seasons and made the playoffs just about every year while Brady was there minus the year he was lost for the season at the start.

Since Brady left and the team started losing, no one talks about them any more outside of the New England area.

If those Patriots could not steal the title of "America's Team" while dominating the league all those years while at the same time the Cowboys were struggling to even make the playoffs, how does any other team of the moment, including the Chiefs, Eagles, etc. have a chance?

The only real way the Cowboys will ever lose the title of "America's Team" will be if non-Cowboys fans stop watching or caring about them.

Yeah the Detroit Lion stuff was weird. Didn’t Jim Nance try to promote that for awhile. Now Cowturd is like the Cowboys are boring and don’t deserve any national television games. Jerry must have pissed of lots of commentators. Cowturd, Wrght, and Florio are trying hard to take down the Cowboys.

It's not a yearly award given to the most popular team (which is probably Dallas anyway). It's an old moniker that has stuck with the team. Like Title Town is Green Bay even though they haven't won anything in a long time.

Also, every year the media is reminded the Cowboys are still America's Team when the schedule is released with the Cowboys getting maximum prime time games. This doesn't just happen, it happens because the Cowboys sellout games across the country and that's what broadcast networks want to televise.

funny enough, imo being "Americas Team" with all the embarassment and shortfalls over the years has been it's own inside joke and punishment. But having to debate if they're America's team every year has the opposite affect to me, and just underscores their importance.

Im rambling, but I don't understand the large, outside the metroplex fan base at all...this day in age.

You need to look at the numbers, once you do, it's obvious Dallas is "America's Team".

When it comes to TV ratings Dallas is always right at the top. A FOX executive was on the Herd discussing the process how games are divided amongst the networks. His response was number 1 everybody fights over the Dallas games. Then they fight over the best QB matchups. Then they divy up what's left. That happens every year and Dallas hasn't won a championship since 1995.

Next you have social media. I saw a report where Dallas number one almost doubles Pittsburgh at number two for the number of followers. No other team is even close.

The there is the fans that actually go to the stadium. Just this year Vivid seats posted that the top three games this year based on price are Dallas games. Fans will pay the highest prices to see Dallas.

Saw another report that Dallas led the league or were right near the top depending on the year in away attendance. I live in NJ and trying to get a ticket for Dallas is expensive because of the limited tickets available. People don't give them up.

Dallas used to also be top in merchandising, but they have fewer marquee players that sell nationwide.

Don't go by opinion or feelings when determining "America's Team", just look at the numbers, the facts, and it becomes quite obvious.

That's fine and all, but this is 2025...not 2000.

I don't see how non-fans or other teams fans watch Dallas games over others.

I get some fans of other teams might watch Dallas games if on tv to watch them lose...but it can't be that many in 2025.

There is so much to do online and with social media, online gaming, etc etc....

I just don't see it being that significant in 2025.

I'm not saying the numbers don't show that the Cowboys games don't draw the most viewers...I just don't see how long it can continue.

Non-football fans go online for entertainment these days, not flip channels and settle on watching the Cowboys.

Seem like the 16 to 35 year old male demographic is interested in online stuff these days.

I guess I need to see the the age range and where these viewers are watching from outside the meteoplex.

Being considered “America’s Team” does not mean the team is good. The Chicago Cubs were the darlings of America for years because they didn’t win for many decades. The Cowboys are on their way to that territory. Their popularity will continue to grow as long as they fall short.

It is so dumb. People on this forum start threads on this as well. It is just a nickname.

I can name about 12 to15 of them that post here daily....no need, everyone knows who I'm talking about.

Dallas has almost double the followers on social media that Pittsburgh has. That would include a large part of the 16 to 35 demographic.

Even if the 16 to 35 year olds aren't watching TV, someone is. Dallas had the top rated game in 2024 and they were playing the Giants. The audience tuned in to see Dallas, not NY. And just go back and look at the ratings. Dallas will have the most watched games in the top 10 year after year.

The reason Dallas is "America's Team" is because of those who root against Dallas every week. Combine that with those that root for Dallas and you will get the largest viewing audience.

I go to the sports bar to watch all the games and do the same when I have traveled across the country. I have experienced the same response from fans. The fans at the bar only root for their team, but the whole bar roots against Dallas irregardless of team allegiance. Dallas elicits a response from everyone, that's "America's Team".
