Interesting thought about preseason games. With all the talk about cutting back on preseason games because of injuries that occur in meaningless games, look how many injuries already to star players after just two weeks without them. Seems to be more than any other time I can think of.

True, but then again the stars that got hurt, like Barkley, probably wouldn't play a total of half a game during preseason, and they already had one entire game this season they played in. So they wouldn't have gotten much work anyway. Add to that the fact that Barkley was hurt last year also, missed 3 games. If that was Zeke, or any other Cowboys player, and it'd be "he's injury prone". Too early for that with Barkley, but another season with missed games, and for sure the whispers will start...

Is that a lack of preseason games or a shortened camp/offseason? More players responsible for their own strength/conditioning seems to be the bigger factor here.

I think it is a combination. Longer camp would help with the conditioning, but I think it is the Pre-Season games that really get them into football shape. I know they do not play a ton of downs, but they are hitting someone other than their teammates.

Football shape cant be manipulated or replaced no matter how strenuous their workouts are. They need at least 2 games or something to get the body ready

But how much is a guy like saquan Barkley or nick bosa playing preseason games? Maybe 3 to 5 series altogether?

:starspin::hammer::hammer:
Plus the lost opportunities for undrafted free agents and lower draft picks and Free Agents.

Preseason importance is shining! Also team revenue and coaching chemistry.

I think 2-3 games preseason hence forth

I was definitely in the let's get rid of preseason all together camp, and I'm happy to admit I was wrong and I think it is a needed thing.

Barkley is just one of about 30 major injuries around the league

Yes, but my point is still valid, they already played a whole game, teams play a lot of players in preseason, especially rookies, really few players get a whole game's worth of work in a typical preseason.

And if I heard correctly in one of the games, maybe the 49ers game, it was said players were complaining about field conditions before the game, that may have had a lot to do with it. And number of injuries is like most any other number, statistically it varies, this may be just "one of those years".

Though I do think no preseason did have some impact, just can't chalk up all these injuries to that....

Players are dropping like flies around the league. I definitely think the preseason helps and we are seeing some repercussions of not having it.

It’s because their whole training regimen and workouts with team were thrown off by COVID.

I think the bigger problem is the restrictions on practice. Guys are coming into week 1 not even close to being in game shape.
