I am going to include several trades, but none including players, as it is so hard to forecast if someone is going to be moved until it happens. Where we are sitting in the 1st is hard to forecast. We obviously have two positions that need youth movement or an improvement, S and OL, and several others that are in need of depth, CB, LB, DL and OL too. Nonetheless,
After sitting in the 1st and seeing all probable sliders that we would select be taken ahead of us, including Dez Bryant, Iupati, Allen, Mays, McClain, and all of the OT's, we have 3 guys high on our boards still available. Pouncey, Ducasse, Kyle Wilson, Odrick and Cody are all available, but our scouting staff is sold on;
1st. Vladimir Ducasse OT Mass.
He is easily in the Cowboys OLineman mold. He needs some work, and we arent really used to starting rookies at vital positions anyways. We need him to learn from Houck and Flozell. One year within the offseason conditioning and learning from our players I think we would be set at LT and RT with Free and Ducasse.
With Burnett, McCourty, Spikes, Saffold, and many other WR's and S's selected before our pick, another big ugly;
2nd. Jon Asamoah OG Illinois
He is an athletic OG/C who has the strength to run block, call the line at C and is motivated. Needs some strength and conditioning to dominate, but he will come along. Is much better than the alternatives, while still being a great value and helps fill a need at the same exact time.
3rd. With many Olineman gone and already selecting 2, we are on the lookout for a playmaking FS to pair with Sensabaugh down the road. Sure we have M. Hamlin, Ball, and Watkins, but Hamlin might not be here much longer, and needing another person to compete for the future.
We trade #90 to the Chiefs for their 4th and 5th round picks.
4a. #102. Jerome Murphy CB/FS USF
Coming from the Tampa Area, USF is my local school. I know several players who will be getting drafted this year on a personal level as I have played against them or spoke with them at some point in their college careers. Murphy reminds me alot of Jenkins, but without the super high ceiling I think Jenkins is starting to reach. He isn't afraid to make a tackle on a ball carrier or lay the wood. He is claimed to be a gambler and be short tempered, something Jenkins was also supposed to be. But, with a former teammate on our team as well as Newman and Coach Campo to teach him right, I believe he will be a steal either at CB or FS.
4b #125. Mike Neal DT Purdue
Neal is a Ratliff clone, but he needs to get more motivated than what he has shown in the past. But when he is, he can dominate. He has similar size to Ratliff at 6-3 308, and can probably slide around on our line. But we need someone to keep him motivated, because if he is, he may steal a DE position away from our incumbents.
5. #136 (From KC). Larry Hart OLB Central Arkansas
I love the possibility of having guys dominate at the edge go 5 deep (Ware, Spencer, BWill, and Butler) and Hart shows the skills to develop right along with them. As a 5th round pick, he figures to be a project, play some ST's and take Octavien's roster spot (many people hate Proctor, but Octavien is my defense version of Proctor, well so is Pat Watkins, but that is another story.) Hart too, needs some time in the weight room and some practice time on Defense, but he has the skills to be a ST'er of quality while he learns the level of an NFL defense.
6. #198. Walter Thurmond CB Oregon
Thurmond dominated his sophmore and junior seasons, but he blew out his knee 4 games into last year. But he can be a talented man cover corner who can also return kicks.
7. #232. Antonio Brown WR Central Michigan
Brown is a talented receiver who also can return kicks, but was hampered but attitude issues and being very green. He doesn't run a full route tree and hasn't been taught the little moves to beat press coverage. But, he was extremely productive his freshman and junior seasons in an offense that didn't have him run many long routes, his collegiate average was 10.5 yards a catch on 305 catches in 3 years.
