As I have stated since he first started acting up a couple of years ago...Greg Ellis wants to be released. He wants another big contract before he retires. Which means he cares more about another big payday...then winnng the Super Bowl. Now chances are that he MAY be signed by a team that is a Super Bowl contender if we were to release him...but from the sounds of it...he would sign with whomever is offering the most money.

Here is what is so mind numbing for me and many Cowboy fans...who were Cowboy fans long before Greg Ellis was a Dallas Cowboy. We have not won a playoff game in forever....it pains me to know that anybody wearing this helmet would be focused on ANYTHING else other than winning!!! How can this be? Seriously! This is just mind boggling!

Hey Greg, did Jerry ask for a refund after many years of mediocre production for a top 8 pick? I mean Greg has been a fixture throughout one of the worst decades of Cowboy football....and we finally are on the verge of making a sustained run and all he wants is more money?

And Terry Glenn...you got 6M last year for nothing....you will get all your money this year if you do not re-injure the degenearative knee....how about a little payback? I mean I would think at this point in your career you are only playing for a chance to get a ring....well the Cowboys brought you in when your NFL career was close to being over....paid you well....and have surrounded you with a good enough team to increase your chances of winning a Super Bowl.....so if that is what you want...then come in and try to help the team get it.

And Ken Hamlin...we put you on a stage you had never been on before...you are playing for the Cowboys...lots of TV apperances...lots of media attention..lots of fanfare...you too were trying to resurrect your career....we have offred you a boatload of money to play football for 1 year...clearly the Cowboys want you long term...but it is not that simple..based on all of the dollars we have doled out in the secondary....you need to take 4M and sit tight until we can see how things sort out next offseason with Henry and Roy Williams. You get to prove last year was not a fluke..and make 4M in the proccess. What's so bad about that?

A Super Bowl team cannot have steak at every position. Jerry has written check after check...for year after year...without any results. Yet all these guys want there money? What have you WON? And it's not like Jerry is not trying to get everyone their money...but how about win something. There's a novel idea....WIN SOMETHING!!!!!!!!!!

Troy Aikman was not cut before he was ready. Every Cowboy fan who watched Aikman's last season know his career was over. We saw he had too many concussions to take the chance of playing him and also his back problems were really bad. Pat Summeral once reported seeing Aikman in pain when he tried to bend down to pick up a coffee cup; same thing happened when he bent down to take the snap from center. Aikman's career ended because of injury concerns. We lost him at a younger age then we should have; just like we lost Novacek, Haley & Irvin. Admit Emmitt left of his own chosing but with a push out the door by Parcells.

Jerruh doesn't yet grasp the concept that vastly overpaying (and making overly comfortable) players NEVER helps a club long term or short. Not in any sport.

While jerry bends over for Ellis & co. they play him like the fool every spring, summer and fall.

Once he learns to jettison bad character guys (Roy, Ellis, now Terry) and replace them with young or older/hungry guys (ie. Tank, Zach, PacMan, even TO) who have a vested interest in succeeding too... we stand a much, much, much greater chance at a playoff win (or more).

ymmv.

- Greg will cry like a girl up to and maybe through training camp, as it has become his way. But, given the cash that is on the line for him which can only be obtained by participating in mandatory offseason activities (Mini-Camp, Training Camp, offseason weight-lifting, etc.), he will buck up.

- Terry may posture for a while, but will end up signing some form of the current proposal or get cut. Noone else will offer him 1.7Mil, so he would be really dumb to play hardball.

- Hamlin will, at a minimum, sign the franchise tendor. He has no true bargaining power at this point other than sitting out the season and bypassing a ton of cash. He is basically posturing trying to get a long term deal, which happens from time to time with the franchise tagged players.

No Worries!

What I hear when I hear the carping- Ellis and Glenn- is not the roar of a champion, but the whine of a toddler.

Canty's not *****ing- and he has no new deal. Barber and Newman didn't complain about their contract situation- and they got rewarded. And I like the fact that Ken Hamlin's not using the press to negotiate. Sign him, Jerry.

Ellis can help the team. So can Glenn. But both belong in the Hall of Very Good. They should not overestimate their importance.

Last I checked last year-Kobe Bryant started creating drama and wanted out of L.A....a year later, the Kobe LEADS the Lakers back to the NBA Finals.

Please quit your whining.

Owners and fans want performance for their money.

Players want money for their performance.

Greg want's his money while his stock is high or at least while he has some type of bargining power. It makes sense for any player to get his money while he has the most leverage. Although the type of relationship a player has with the teams owner may determine how patient and how creative a player is willing to be when it's time to get paid, I don't mind one bit that he is voicing his demands in a way that doesn't distract his team.

The fact that we are making a run at the Super Bowl only increases some players bargining power. I say to all players in Greg's position... Use whatever leverage you can to get what is deserved for your performance on the field as long as it is not disruptive beyond reason. All it takes is one play and all of your leverage can and will be gone and all of this "for the team" stuff won't matter anymore. Also, all of the fans that were calling for you to make financial sacrifices won't be there to help you make ends meet and this is a fact. They just wish you well and nod in sadness and talk about how much of a team player you were by putting them and a corporation before you and your families needs. GET REAL!!

From what I hear, the retirement plans for NFL players is in need of a overhaul so until I know the future of football players is supported by the corporations they work and destroy their bodies for, I will GENERALLY take the side of the player who everyday put's his pads on and subjects his body to ungodly demands.

So let me get this straight. He is set to make over 7 million for the next 2 years and you want us to feel sorry for him because he can't pay his bills and feed his family? You are joking right? Ellis needs to shut the hell up and play for the team and the contract he signed. It was a good deal when he signed it and he was happy with it. Yes there has been inflation but not 7 million dollars worth. Come on dude, that's delusional. I won't feel sorry for him because he is ONLY making 7 million dollars. Wah! There are other defensive lineman making more than him in the NFL. Again, wah! Get over it and earn the big money that is already on the table. God! You guys burn me. :bang2:

I see what you are saying big guy. However, I will say that this is a business unfortunately. Also, as you can see, I did say as long as it's not a distraction to the team.

Use whatever leverage you can to get what is deserved for your performance on the field as long as it is not disruptive beyond reason.

As far as the dollar amount he is currently making, what does that have to do with anything? He is looking for a raise in a profession that pays in the millions for a job well done. In his mind, he feels that he should be paid more based on his perception of his market value. His reps and JJ will talk about this eventually and it will work or it won't.

The question is what does shutting up and just playing have to do with the business transactions of a player and a team owner? If the player is worth the money he should get it. If he is not worth it to the fans and owners alike, he shouldn't and won't get it.

I don't see the problem here.
