This team is going to be good for years to come.

We're very young, and our youth is slowly maturing. We're going to be a force in the NFC for at least another 4-6 years. We have another draft like 2007 and we're going to be unstoppable.

Packers NFL's youngest team for 4th-straight year
By Greg A. Bedard of the Journal Sentinel
Sept. 16, 2009

Green Bay - Packers coach Mike McCarthy said after last season that his team would be "hard-pressed" to be the youngest squad in the NFL again in 2009.

Well, he was wrong.

The Packers opened the season with the league's youngest roster for the fourth-straight season. After being tied with the Kansas City Chiefs last season, the Packers took the outright lead again by posting an average age of 25.70 years.

The Indianapolis Colts are second at 25.89.

The league average is 26.61.

"That's not on my statistics board when we set goals for the year," McCarthy said on Dec. 31. "I think the most important aspect of our football team is our experience level is increasing, and they're still young, and I think that's exciting."

General manager Ted Thompson said he was surprised to hear he had constructed such a youthful team. But said those numbers don't tell the whole story.

"A little bit, yeah," Thompson said this afternoon. "I will say this, I'm sitting here looking at (our list) of opening-day rosters, and the youngest is 26.2, which we have, and the highest is 28. That's the 53-man roster. If you go with average age of starters, ours is 28.4, which is the eighth oldest in the league. On defense we're 29.1, which is third oldest.

"It's just the way it has worked out."

Packers lead the NFC and are a close second in the NFL in fewest average years of experience (3.81). The Cincinnati Bengals, Sunday's opponent, have the least amount of experience in the league at 3.77.

NFL average is 4.48.

Packers have the lowest number of players 30 and older (four). Of the league's 31 other teams, 18 (42%) have double-digit numbers of players over 30. League average is 10.6.

Thompson said he doesn't have an aversion to players once they get to a certain age.

"It doesn't make any difference to me," Thompson said. "We're going to have a group of young players every year because we believe strongly in the draft and how that builds up the core of your team. But if a guy can play, it doesn't matter to me how old he is."

Thompson said the average age of the Packers' reserves are 22.4.

As for players 30 and older, i believe we have 6 of them.

Just because Kitna's old arse is skewing statistics son, he's 37.

Brooking (34) and Flozel (34) are the only guys we have on our team over 31.

Get your mathematics outta here.

I agree we are extremely young.

The average age per team is really skewed. Flozell, Kitna kill the average.

I think jerry even adds more talent to this team in the draft by moving up alot.
