Because if he hits the FA market we might not resign him. I know he is a RFA but what if some team gave him a 5 year 45 Mil contract with a 16 mil SB do we match.....this will be an interesting offseason......

He will be hit with a 1st round or 1st & 3rd round tender which will probably keep teams away because there will be other options in FA and the draft. A long term deal will be worked out with him unless they play on going after McFadden. I'm not worried at all about losing Barber if JJ wants to keep him.

Are the draft picks for this year's draft or next year's draft?

You have until April 21st to sign with another team if you are a RFA, after that your rights revert back to your original team, so the draft picks are ALWAYS for that year. If someone tenders MBIII and we let him walk, we will get 2008 draft pick/picks.

He is a restricted Free Agent which would mean that if a team were to sign him away from us and we handled it right we could get compensation. In other words, it is probably in the best interest of the team to see what offers are out there.

If he is, I'm buying one.

I can see Jerrah signing him to a 1-2 year deal to test the tread. Kinda a similar situation they had with Romo. But, they need someone to give him the opportunity to carry the load each week. I don't see them giving him a lot of money without really knowing his longterm worth. He has flashes of brilliance, but it's not as the every down back.
