The bigger story is our defense

17th ranked defense per NFL.com

11th in rushing and 20th in passing which is reflecting teams behind in 2nd half needing to pass more.

I'm not going to get too excited about it.

We had that game last year against the Eagles where we looked unbelievable and then went right back to being what we were.

If we go to Green Bay and do something similar to yesterday then we can start believing that maybe this defense could end up being pretty good.

I'm not buying it right now though.

We kept some top WR's in check this year, and especially Green yesterday. I feel they can keep this up. However, one bad game against an elite QB and offense, does not mean they will fold like a tent for the remaining games.
However, I do understand what you are saying. But if we have some success and contain GB to less points that normal, or even better shut them down. Then I know what the normal suspects will say.
Rodgers and GB do not look right, something is wrong.

The offense is putting the defense in some really good game situations. This is what it looks like when you're playing beatable teams (sorry, Cincy). I'm glad for it, but I still think it looks a lot different when you're playing the truly good teams in the league. We'll see here coming up, because I'm not sure how good GB and PHI really are, but this run of CIN, GB, PHI ought to be a pretty good test for us. Those are all playoff-level squads, at least.

They couldn't close games out last year . Stats can often be misleading or not tell the whole story . We had some leads in 4th qtr last year.

Yeah. I saw the games - every one of them. And I saw plenty where the D had a chance to seal the win and didn't. Like the Seattle game for example. But I ALSO saw an anemic offense putting us in that position in the first place time and time again - like the Seattle game. Or bad special teams like the NYG's game on the road. My point was the defense in many games last year kept it close enough for us to win and had we had even an inkling of what we have now on the offensive side of the ball, we would have been much more positive in our assessment of last year's D.

That stated. The D has been much more clutch this year when called upon.

Yesterday was, by far, the best the rush has been all season. Not even close.

The secondary is looking kinda legit right now. Mo has been great. Jones has been very good. Brown has been under-the-radar very good. Carr even had a good game yesterday, and even freakin WILCOX has made some plays (while looking bad other times).

It's not an elite defense, but I think it could be solid overall if the rush continues like it did yesterday.

Lol

We're already beginning damage control in discounting how good the Packers are in case we beat them . Unbelievable ..

Edit: no it's very believable. I guess Rodgers isn't an elite QB anymore either?

We weren't going to win them all with Romo either .

I tell you what. When Romo returns he better light it up . If not he's going to be booed out of the stadium. We'll see how Jerry deals with that.

No pressure...

Lol. You must not be very familiar with my posting history somehow.

And I"m down on the Packers (relatively) because the guy who made them special has gone from the best QB in the game to just 'really good' here recently. MIN is the class of that division now.

I'm sorry . I'm not familiar .

I didn't really want to derail this thread about the defense with more debate on Romo and Dak but your post spurred my response .

And yes, Minn is off to a great start but until they close the deal in January I'd give Rodgers every consideration if it came down to a matchup . No QB I'd rather have behind my center.

Defense stepped up for sure.

But I must admit I was surprised to see the Bengals pull up from the run game early on.
Gio had 9 carries for 50 yards. IMO he's the better overall back than Hill.
