The Giants are done. If they win, they would finish 9-7, possibly tied 4-2 with the Eagles and Cowboys in the division if Dallas wins, but out of the playoffs.

If they lose, they would end up 8-8 regardless of the Philadelphia/Dallas outcome and on the outside looking in (thank you NFL.com for that phrase).

What will be their motivation for beating Minnesota? Can they be prideful enough to bring it? OR can the idiotic attitudes of guys like Brandon Jacobs (and his irrational overwhelming hate of the Cowboys) be enough of a factor to get them into playing uninspired football during the early game--knowing that should they lose a meaningless game, Dallas would have zero opportunity at grabbing the #2 seed in the playoffs before kicking off against Philadelphia?

It wouldn't shock me at all if New York plays lackluster football Sunday. 0.500 or 0.563? Why would either matter to a someone like Jacobs? What would stop him from promoting a "Let's stick it to Dallas one last time" campaign within his ranks?

I've seen teams roll over in the past. Tom Coughlin has certainly had a couple of his rosters turn it off during his coaching career, although usually it has happened because players couldn't stand his unrelenting coaching style.

In my book, there's a strong possibility of it happening. That will be my main reason for watching them in the early game. As always, my main focus, win or lose, is on what Dallas does every game.

Let the cards fall as they may. If the Cowboys handle their business each week, success will follow, but a possible New York Giants soap opera effort this weekend is too enticing for me to pass up watching unfold for myself.

I don't think anybody plays that hard when their playoff hopes just got crushed, but I don't think they'll roll over. Imagine yourself in their situation. Most of these guys have too much pride to roll over for anybody.

With Coughlin as coach and Manning as QB, I think they play hard.

I agree and I think Ahmad Bradshaw and the way he has been running is much more of a weapon than Jacobs has been.

Heck if I was coughlin I would tell Jacobs just to pack his stuff up now and do not bother showing back up.

I don't care what happens outside of our control.

We win the East. That's OUR job.

Getting the 2nd seat would be gravy, but it's out of our control.

We take care of our own bidness. Can't worry about what the Giants do or don't do.

No argument there. That's why I said:

I'm watching their game just to see what kind of effort they will put out. If I didn't think it would be a possibility, I wouldn't even watch their game.

Isn't Jacobs going to retire if he doesn't average 4 yards a carry?

If he doesn't reach his goal, perhaps Mr. Davis can talk some sense into him...

The Giants may tank, but I seriously doubt they'll be thinking about Dallas. That seems ridiculous. What's their thought process? "Hey, lets lose or root for Arizona to win, so Dallas will get a lower playoff seed"?

Some of their players are just waiting for the game to be over so they can head to whatever exotic destination they've chartered a flight to the next day. Some of them will play hard no matter the situation. More than likely the game will turn on something happening early to get the Giants into the game. If a play or two goes against them, they'll probably roll over and die.

I agree. I think teams that our out of the running need to get off to quick starts to have something to play for. These guys are competitors you don't get to that level without being a competitive person but when there is nothing on the line you need to make things happen early the longer you stay in the game the more you want to win.

Just from my experience's playing ball none of that stuff mattered after the first couple of hits. Once you got hit or laid a hit all that stuff went away and it was about your assignments and beating your guy. It did not matter if we were a horrible team (which we were) the vast majority of us continued to play hard. Pride paid a big part in it. I with guess with pro's it might be a different story.

:laugh2:

Beyond a Vikes win....We'd need the Cards to lose as well to get a #2 seed.

I think we best forget about that and focus on the Eagles, a division title and a home game.

Cowboys can only focus on Philly, as a fan I may as well pull for NY and GB because I know it is better to be the 2 seed than 3 or less.

I think both games could fall our way if they do great if not well so be it.

Who isn't focused on the Eagles

The Giants are only great when playing Dallas.
They'll stay true to form and suck the big one in a loss to Minny. ****.

:signmast: Exactly. And that's the only reason why I'm watching their game Sunday. :)

Their playoff hopes didnt get crushed. They went 3-7 in their last 10 games. :)

The Giants were nowhere near great when we lost to them each time.
