I agree, the Eagles did not look like the unbeatable team that I thought they were earlier in the season. They are still really good and they have a great secondary. But they have issues stopping the run too. Teams average over 5 yards per carry against them. Their offense overcomes that by scoring early and often. The Cowboys played they very tough except for some real bonehead plays in the 2nd quarter. Penalties, INTs, stupid coaching decisions, hurt Dallas and gave a team that can score points early opportunities. In the meantime the Cowboys, who have struggled to score point with Rush at QB, were giving up possessions.
I also agree that the Cowboys with Dak and a healthy team can beat the Eagles who were at full strength Sunday night. This is an important point. The Eagles had all of their starters for this game. Sure they lost a couple of guys during the game but the Cowboys played the Eagles with their backup QB, the most important position on the field for Dallas. Take Hurts out of the game and it changes everything for the defense because the threat of the run is not as great.
We'll see where both teams are when they meet again in December. I suspect the Eagles will have a perfect or near perfect record by then because their schedule is a cakewalk. But I also believe, barring more injuries at key positions the Cowboys will win.
I will also say that the refs for this game were allowing a lot of stuff on the OL that gave the Eagles a big advantage. I think the 2 - 10 advantage in penalties was partly the Cowboys fault but also the result of refs who overlooked a lot of obvious calls that should have gone against the Eagles. When Lane Johnson went out Driscoll had trouble blocking Parsons and what using an arm bar most of the night to keep him off of Hurts. When I re-watched the game I saw some pretty obvious holding calls that could have stopped the Eagles last TD drive. Imagine if the game was only 20-17 with Dallas getting the ball with several minutes left to play and 2 time outs and the 2 minute warning.
What worries me most about the Eagles is their willingness to use all methods available to find players to strengthen their team. The draft, they trade for draft picks, they trade for players, the sign players in free agency, they even found a stud LT playing Australian football. Dallas ties one arm behind their back be using only the draft to build their team. As long as the Eagles continue to be aggressive upgrading their roster they will be a tough team to beat.
